The council and FE R A committee considered work shifts and city duties with leaders Johnson and Gill-Ngork present. They discussed waste management cost, a paper recycling plan, and funding for a community fair while examining a retaining wall project at the high school field.
City officials consider using state roads and city streets to relieve heavy congestion and load limits near the depot and high school. FERA labor is to assist, with local residents including Mr and Mrs Hof Orem and Mr Thorne of Provo noted in discussions.
Lawrence M. Atwood of this city, appointed six months ago by the Utah County Commission to succeed Robert L. Elliott as county assessor, announced his candidacy. He served one term in the state legislature and authored the Cooperative Marketing law. A. H. Lowe, a member of the Alpine District School Board and former Windsor ward bishop, farms in that district and announces his candidacy for the state legislature.
Pleasant Grove residents travel to Pioche and Logan. dances, dances, and a country store aid a good cause. Local families host parties, birthdays, and library events while schools plan openings and students prepare for winter in Logan and Ephraim.
The mid summer outlook from the Bureau of Agricultural Economics predicts higher farm prices for poultry and eggs this fall due to reduced production and feed scarcity. Chickens hatched are down about 10 percent from last year and August 1 hen counts are three percent lower.
George L. Smith Bert Cooper and The Hayes led a well arranged canyon party Friday near Hanging Rock American Fork canyon in honor of the local baseball team. Dr J Cobbley C C Jensen Roy Smith and team members spoke songs and talks followed by Vern Cullimore Lycan Johnson Jesse Walker and Alvis Call solos with a harmonious quartet from Vern Christiansen and J L Theobald. The evening was cool enough for overcoats.
The Daughters of the Pioneers entertained at a social in Pleasant Grove for the district's 84th birthday at the log cabin in the City park. All pioneers were honor guests. Mrs. Harold S. Walker led the program with songs talks and readings. Refreshments followed with an hour of chat and reminiscences.
The annual G A and Jamboree was held in the High School Gym with Senior girls as guests. Officers led the event featuring group fashion changes from a surprise box, five groups choosing two representatives for a fashion revue, plus relays dramatic skits and singing contests.
Ralph Warnick and Richard Swenson won the 4-H club contest in Utah county with the project Clean Milk and Milk in the Diet. The winners of the state meet gathered at Logan this week.
Tax assessors have spent the past week evaluating properties in the Main street district Wrappers printed.
The Manila ward MIA plans its 14th Sunset Rally Sunday at the ward chapel. The outdoor program will start at sunset on the cement approach with seating on grounds and a view of Utah Valley as a backdrop.
Sunday September 23 is Genealogical Sunday and urged as check up day for families to review genealogical and historical items. Members are asked to write up happenings of the past year and beyond including births baptisms marriages deaths ordinances priesthood calls missions education progress and travels.
Mr and Mrs Clifton J Walker and children of Ogden visited Sunday with Mrs Walker s sister Mrs Ethel West and other relatives. Mr and Mrs Robert Bell and Mrs Edith Harmon of Salt Lake were also guests at the West home Saturday.
The Pleasant Grove Republican primary at the High School Auditorium named delegates and alternates to the county convention in Springville on September 26. The delegation was instructed to support Wesley Jense as the county auditor nominee.
Fifty nine students registered for the New Testament class and eighty two for the Old Testament classes at the Seminary during the past week. The Junior Seminary will start regular class work next week.
Reed Coulman J D Clark Din Peterson Walter Williams of Twin Falls Idaho Joe Clayson of American Folk and Grant Bowen of Spanish Folk arrived Wednesday from Twin Falls for a brief visit with relatives and friends in Utah. The Rhythm Kings of KTFI left last June for Twin Falls to take a summer engagement at radio KTFT. The band gained popularity at Radio land dancing center of Twin Falls and will stay through the fall and winter season with other members Dan Colby Provo Glade Jorgenson Ray Watsen and Will Wright director American Fork.
