Johnson reports manufacturing tour across eastern centers

Johnson’s trip covered Lancaster factories and a three day company event. He visited Chicago and Pittsburgh plants learning about glass to motor assemblies while touring schools in Isburg and meeting Japanese goodwill fliers. Production Manager David S Walker Named at KOVO

David S Walker son of J Sanford Walker of Pleasant Grove and American Fork has been chosen production manager for KOVO Utah's new radio station. A BYU and University of Utah graduate with a speech and journalism major, he previously served as Zion Lodge program director with Utah Parks. He did a two year New Zealand mission as secretary, won the 1938 Omega Nu journalism award, and belonged to Theta Alpha Phi while active in campus radio.

Engagement of Mrs. Eliza Jacobsen’s granddaughter

Mrs Eliza Jacobsen of Pleasant Grove announces the engagement of her granddaughter Miss Rhea Hooley to McCoy Rackman of Mt Pleasant. The marriage is planned for September 20. Rackman is a son of Mrs Lydia Rackman of Mt Pleasant, and air travel is noted as an outstanding experience.

Pleasant Grove 4 H Members Win State Fair Prizes

Pleasant Grove Four-H girls collected top ribbons at the county fair with Jean Anderson earning first place in the second year clothing exhibit, her display to be sent to the Utah State Fair. Carol Clark gained an A rating for the wine colored Webs dress and scrapbook, and June West earned a B rating for her sports dress. All club members earned state exhibit ribbons under leaders Ida Halliday and W C Smith.

Pleasant Grove High opens with dances and fairs

Pleasant Grove High School welcomes students for the 1939 40 year with a planned opening dance after the big football game vs Park City. Student Council outlines activities, while Future Farmers win multiple prizes at the Utah County Fair earning $235.75. New speech instructor Dan Peterson begins duties as the school plans plays and senior events.

Commemorating the eve of the ninety ninth anniversary, Daughters Of Pioneers held a city celebration at the home of Mayor and Mrs Al Kirk. Pioneers were honored as the program reviewed Pleasant Grove history with music and numbers.

Pleasant Grove Team Wins Acclaim At Utah County Fair

At the Utah County Fair on Saturday afternoon Pleasant Grove's heavyweights impressed by pulling 2800 pounds and dragging 3000 pounds for 11 feet 2 inches, earning second in the heavyweight class behind Arvil Scott's 3970 pound team with 3100 pull. Mr and Mrs Vilace Raimal and Mr and Mrs Ray Merrill visited Salt Lake City Wednesday. A former football star at B U is named assistant football manager and will assist in music and mathematics. Back to School notes a rush on alarm clocks and headache powder as students return. A pre season football game versus Park City is set for September 15 on the Pleasant Grove campus with practice beginning on the first day of school.

P. G. Couple Have Interesting Trip To Eastern Coast

Mr and Mrs JP Fugal recently returned from a three week tour of New England and the New York world’s fair with their son and daughter in law Roy Fugal. They traveled over 300 miles along the Atlantic coast visiting Boston area historic sites and major institutions. Highlights include the New York world’s fair with the House of Magic by General Electric and the Lagoon of Nations. The trip covered Harvard Yale MIT and other prominent campuses and coastal scenery from the eastern seaboard.

Pleasant Grove reports strong enrollment figures with Central School at 224 and districtwide 440. Seventh and Tenth grades tied for first with four students each, plus 75 in eighth, 6 in eleventh, and 65 in twelfth. Roy Fugal promoted to personnel director at GE Bridgeport plant. extensive career in MIT and Europe noted. Pleasant Grove sent a standout exhibit to the Utah County Fair portraying the theme Pleasant Grove, the Strawberry City, with photos, produce, and live demonstrations, organized by Lucan Johnson and others.
