The September 1 1929 crop outlook predicts better than last month for sugar beets hogs hay and potato crops with higher total production than 1928. Totals include spring wheat oats barley apples onions and oats while drought and frost risks loom as forecasts hinge on late season weather conditions.
Clifford L Wright was returning from the Orem Canning factory when a speeding car crowded him into a post with an R F D mailbox. The post broke the car rolled and one window was shattered with a bent fender. Wright escaped with a few bruises as the other car fled, its license number unseen.
Elma Bazil Walker's one year old daughter fell on a broken bottle while playing in the yard and cut a deep gash in her knee. She is reported to be getting along nicely.
Dr Ernest Jensen of Salt Lake visited Pleasant Grove. Mrs Harold Walker, recovering after a serious operation at L D S Hospital Salt Lake, is supported by her mother Mrs J Harvey who is in Salt Lake near her daughter.
The Timpanogos Stake Relief Societies invite all households to attend the Flower Show at the High School Gym on Thursday September 19. Ward committees will visit homes to collect bouquets or display items. There are departments for Primary children Junior girls general category and exhibitors over 60. Prepare artistic bouquets with flowers arranged separately and use attractive containers to show fine houseplant specimens and rare blooms.
A wedding reception at a Geneva resort honored Leona Andreason and Melvin Grant after their Salt Lake Temple marriage. About 350 relatives from American Fork Vineyard Pleasant Grove and Provo attended. Attendants and guests enjoyed flowers, music, dancing, and refreshments. the couple plan to reside in Pleasant Grove.
City Council met September 7 at 8 p.m. discussing a Union Pacific signal system at the crossing north of the depot. Railroad officials opposed the system but offered cars to stop traffic and a flagman for special events. Other items include a confectionery license petition, library plastering completed, cemetery plot accepted, and painting of Pleasant Grove City for airplane visibility. The marshal will coordinate with school authorities to prevent trespassing at Pio Neer Grove. The finance committee reviews painting plans for city rooftops.
On Sunday September 15 the Timpanogos Stake Sunday School will host its regular monthly union meeting with representatives of the General Board and Mr Bird superintendent of the Utah Stake Sunday Schools expected to attend A good attendance is desired.
Pleasant Grove three wards presented fine programs Tuesday evening with The Story Book Wedding of the Improvement Era and Young Woman's Journal as features. A social and refreshments followed. Rach Wan reports strong enrollment across wards.
Manila L A officers held an opening party Tuesday evening described as a traffic themed social with rules signs as decorations. Dances included Back Heat Drivers Dance Traffic Cop Dance and Maribam Dane. A Kangaroo Court feature tried traffic violators and free refreshments plus doughnuts and punch were offered.
Windsor Camp of Dauehtora held its monthly meeting Thursday at the home of Mrs. Mary J. Walker. An Inferring program featured singing including Love At Rome and Redeemer at Israel. Granddaughter Inez Wether attended Burl Walker and Ines Walker.
The 1929 20 term opens with Lindon Junior High crowded into the grade school as new classrooms are built. New staff include Ford Poulson as music instructor, Jewel Linebaugh in Dramatic Art, Miss Scorup in Domestic Science, and Mr. Smith from Logan in Mechanic Arts. Grade teachers Wiltna Stewart Helen Clarke Della Smith and Ada White join a corps aiming to organize each department for efficient work.
City undertook fall cleanup of the cemetery with weed control and debris removal. Lots serviced will incur charges to owners, and burning of collected material will proceed. The work aims to curb noxious weeds and seed spread, marking record improvements over prior years.
Members of the Third Ward armed with tools met at their meeting house Wednesday morning and began tearing the roof off to start the remodeling program outlined by the architects. The ward plans to do as much work as possible. Miss Jauch Peterson of Granger spent the weekend at Merrill Warnick's home.
The Manila Farm Bureau sponsors a 4% community fair on Saturday September 14 at 1 p m at the Amusement Hall grounds. High grade cattle and livestock along with farm products will be shown. A flower show by lady members, demonstrations by 4 H Club girls, and a breakfast table display of cereals are featured. Supervisors named for dust, agricultural products, livestock, and 4 H and women’s exhibits. Utah County Fair Board members and judges from UTAG extension directed by W J Thayne and Anson Call.
W A Hayes announces the marriage of his son Emmett R to Miss Myrtle Johnson of Everett Washington. The ceremony was held Saturday September 7 at Tia Juana Mexico. The couple will reside in Fulllington Park California.
The Timpanogos Stake releases September home missionaries by ward. Pleasant Grove First Ward lists Fred Shoell and James H Walker. Second Ward David Gourley and Francia Wohneon. Third Ward James D Thorne and Maurine Garnett. Lindon Ward Thomas Fenton and Blaine Warnick. Manila Ward C J Warnick and Villce Radmall Windsor. Albert Anderson and James Cullimore in Windsor. They will be at the wards next Sunday evening, September 15.
Mrs Ethel Weel has been appointed City Librarian and will continue her duties at the library, which is open daily from 4 to 9 p.m. The report notes two weeks of service and outlines library hours and staff movements.
