Expo 71 runs September 23 to 25 at BYU Fieldhouse with door prizes from Utah Valley merchants. Rex Dunford says Lions Club volunteers will contact retailers before September 10 to solicit gifts and tickets, free to the public. drawings occur throughout the three day expo highlighting Utah Valley industrial achievements.
City council met Tuesday night at 7 30 to discuss city issues and honor Floyd Adams city general superintendent with his death noted. The group approved closing offices for his funeral and explored monument policies and a zoning change. advised applications for general city superintendent and scheduled site tours of the Battle Creek Canyon waterline project.
The Pleasant Grove Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camps plan a joint meeting on Monday at 2 p.m. It is the first meeting of the new season with Pleasant Grove Camp hosting. Guests honored include the project builders of mill stones gifted by Mr and Mrs Joseph E Davis. Edna Newman will present a short history of milling in Pleasant Grove. Refreshments will follow and the stones and plaque will be dedicated. All interested are invited.
The Utah County Farm Bureau met at Kelly's Grove in Springville Canyon with attendees from Pleasant Grove including Mr. and Mrs. Harold Armitstead and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Anderson. Armitstead is president and Anderson a board member. Mrs. Armitstead serves on the ladies committee. A chicken dinner, games, and sports drew over a hundred youths. Radios clocks and candy were given as prizes. The egg tossing finals decided the winner who kept eggs intact longest, earning a transistor table radio.
The Citizens Party of Lindon will hold a nominating meeting at Lindon City Park on Thursday September 23 at 7:30 p.m. Party officers urge all residents to attend. they say Lindon's welfare may depend on the men nominated and elected.
City Recreation Director Bill Hoglund thanks volunteers who ran summer programs for ages 9 through 19, including Little League and Colt League. He notes leaders Jack Taylor and Dallan Beck, with Byron Duke set to replace Taylor. Beck’s successor not named. New winter programs planned with cooperation from Keith Brezzant and the Community School. ongoing funding via 50 cent monthly donations billed with water bills.
Grovecrest hosts a back to school night and school fair this Thursday September 9 at 7 p m. Parents can meet teachers PTA staff and review school procedures with the fair on display before and after the meeting.
City offices close between 10 30 a m and 1 p m in remembrance of city employee Floyd Adams. All city staff receive this time off to attend the funeral and regular services will be unavailable during the period.
The Pleasant Grove area PTA launches membership drives as six local schools begin new sessions. Five women's groups lead the effort under Mrs. Roger Redmond with goals to fund children’s welfare, raise home life standards, press for protective laws, and strengthen home school cooperation for every child’s education.
Utah Technical College at Provo will launch evening classes for adults and students starting Sept 22 with registration Sept 13 17 and 20 21. About 80 courses across trades and general subjects will be offered with a 12 student minimum for new courses and a nearly 100 member faculty including community specialists.
Alpine Musical Theater Group will audition for Ichabod under the Community School Program of Alpine School District. Auditions run Sept. 10 at Lehi High School 3 to 8 p.m., Sept. 11 at Pleasant Grove High School 2 to 6 p.m., and Sept. 11 at Shelley Elementary in American Fork 8:30 a.m. to noon. Production staff includes Gene M. Larson producer, Glen Smith musical director, Bill Kirkpatrick co producer and set designer. Participants must sing a song and bring it. accompanist provided. The musical opens late October with two performances in Lehi American Fork and Pleasant Grove.
Lindon Elementary records say a school day open house will be held next Thursday September 16. PTA officials describe it as a free chance for parents to observe students and teachers in their classrooms.
Stella Barton of Pleasant Grove reaches 80 on September 12. An open house at 9 West First South welcomes friends and relatives from 4 to 7 p m that Sunday. Stella, born September 14, 1891 in Manassa Colorado, is the daughter of George W and Nancy Blair Barton.
