Mountain View Bank Plans Highland Limited Service Branch

Mountain View Bank executive R Kent Evans announced a planned limited service Highland branch to serve Highland and Alpine customers. An application has been filed with the Commissioner of Financial Institutions, construction could start in about a year, and the facility will include drive up and walk up service with new account options.

Back to School Night Set At Pleasant Grove High

Pleasant Grove High School invites parents to Back to School Night on September 8 at 7:00 p.m. The PTA council and teachers will provide brief introductions and allow visits to classes with short meetings to discuss curriculum homework and grading. PTA officers will collect $1 membership dues and refreshments will be served.

Utah Tech assigns 80-20 vocational to general curriculum

Utah Technical College at Provo will offer about 80 percent of its curriculum in vocational technical courses this year with 20 percent in related general education. The plan meets state guidelines and allows undeclared students to take general education classes while choosing a major. Counseling will aid students before Sept. 26 registration.

Utah Power and Light Receives $17.3 Million Rate Increase

The Utah Public Service Commission granted Utah Power and Light Co. a $17,258,472 annual rate increase with 14.5 percent return on equity and 10.25 percent on rate base, effective August 40. The order adds to a March 1977 $118 million increase approved earlier for UP&L construction in progress and tax normalization of accelerated depreciation, part of prior 1976 actions.

Kiwanis Club Installs George Grass as President

Pleasant Grove Kiwanis held its installation banquet on August 27 with District Lt. Governor Lewis Huff presiding. George Grass became president for 1977 78, Lyle Thacker named President Elect, and Harold Jacklin and William Petersen elected to the board. Maurice Peterson exits as outgoing president. Harvey Rawlinson remains secretary treasurer. The club awarded Pleasant Grove High School for outstanding achievement, accepted by Principal John Gourley, followed by community singing and socializing.

Dean G. Wilson Named U S Steel Vice President

Native Utahn Dr. Dean G. Wilson was appointed vice president of engineering for United States Steel, effective Sept. 1, announced by J. R. Ferguson Jr. Wilson, born in Payson, holds degrees from the University of Utah and has led U S Steel's Homestead Works since January 1976. He began in 1950 at Geneva Works and advanced through multiple roles before joining U S Steel’s leadership. He and his wife Jacqueline Redd of Blending, Utah, have six children.

Karen Green Returns From Peru Mission For LDS Church
