The Lehi Alpine Tampapogos and Sharon stakes held their annual institute at Pleasant Grove High School at 7:00. Mr H P Jones, YM superintendent of the Timpanogos stake, presided. The program featured Carry On sung by Girls of Timpanogos, directed by Ford Poulson. Other items included a prayer by Mr Hammond, a string ensemble, a Thanksgiving gem by Mrs Edith Anderson, and a Thanksgiving story by Miss Viola West.
Pleasant Grove residents share Thanksgiving visits with relatives and friends. J O Clark visits from Logan with Marie Bickford of Twin Falls Idaho later, with a reception planned and Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Community events include dances, school programs, and charity drives such as Christmas Seals to fight tuberculosis.
A Manila ward banquet and social at the amusement hall drew about 200 guests. Decorations featured wild grape foliage and red rose berries in pumpkin holders. Mrs. Laura Warnick and 4H club girls organized the decor as Stake President W. W. Warnick acted as toastmaster. The program included toasts by Bishop BH Adams and others, readings, tap dance by Helen Chamberlain and Wilma Green, and a plain quadrille by older members. The turkey flocks provided generous helpings, and dancing wrapped up the evening.
Pleasant Grove Canning Co and H W Jacobs Co have been busy for two weeks verifying tomato crop returns and preparing checks to pay the entire pack. The distribution aids the Thanksgiving season and possibly taxes. The crop, once touted as bumper, suffered from a dry season and blight, ending at around 60 percent of normal, though some farmers earned as much as 25 tons per acre.
At the monthly MTA joint meeting, the First ward will feature a program from the Third ward in Provo led by Donna Olpin Ash. The public is invited. A Lindon ward Sunday school auction sale was held Thursday at Lindon hall with donations from ward members.
The Second Ward Relief Society plans a bazar at their ward chapel Relief Society room on Tuesday December 10. Kitchen aprons fancy work quills and rugs will be sold. A noon day lunch will be offered. All are invited to visit and shop early. Mrs Hattie Beazant hosted a shower Monday afternoon for Mrs Floyd Beazant with about 30 ladies attending.
