Readable text indicates Idaho and Utah sugar growers will receive payments this week totaling about $490,000 across districts. The disbursement includes checks and mailings to farmers, with anticipated annual sums similar to prior years and distribution coordinated by local offices.
J. W. Gillman attended a state Water Storage committee meeting in Salt Lake City. The 12 member panel, appointed by the governor, handles storage water, reclamation and irrigation projects. A Chicago expert considers diking Utah Lake to create a fresh water reservoir for irrigation and industry. Government engineer O Larson oversees Utah Lake survey unless told otherwise by Washington. Some funds from Washington may support the projects.
Local residents and visitors share events from Pleasant Grove and nearby towns. Notes cover gatherings, weddings, travels, a funeral, church activities, birthdays, and youths leaving for missions with plenty of family and friend cross visits across Utah communities.
Tomato growers for the Utah Fish Canning company received their checks this week. Mr. Allred reports the rum was satisfactory this year and that growers were paid in full on November 16.
Funeral services were held in the Windsor ward chapel Thursday at 2 p m for Adel bert York. Eldon Swenson led the service with several speakers and musical tributes. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery with the grave dedicated by Eldon Swenson.
Ethan Peay accepts the position of assistant dairyman at the Government Indian school in Tuba City Arizona. He and Mrs Peay will leave at week’s end to begin this new work and his qualifications and willingness to serve are cited as factors for success.
A century ago public roads sometimes passed through occupied homes in England. An advocate of public access once traversed the manor by entering through the front and exiting the back as part of his annual pilgrimage to the residence.
The boys will compete in a two mile cross country race starting at H. W. Jacobs corner and finishing back at the start with a silver cup for the winner. The event is set for Friday November 17 and includes a turkey supper for all entrants. The school also formed a girls glee club with officers and two trios formed for performances during the year. Senior Hop from Friday night featured an Armistice Day theme with flags and Liberty statues enhancing the gym display.
Work began Thursday on the High School campus to level a 12 foot grade from northeast to northwest corner. County tracks grader and R F C help will shape the grounds for athletics and a race track is expected to be laid out for spring track work.
A Public Library received several new book donations including Joseph Smith The American Prophet from the First Presidency, The Universal Anthology by Mrs. Arthur Esklund, ten volumes of Junior Classics, ten volumes of Mark Twain works from Mrs. Nina Lee, and Life Begins at Forty for the mental shelf. The town notes mumps cases in schools and urges home quarantine.
Mrs Ida B Wise Smith, president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, writes in Liberty that dry forces will wage a greater battle against wets. She calls abstinence total and argues liquor education, economic burdens of repeal, and advertising bans to curb drinking.
The Timpanogos unit of the Utah County Red Cross launched its yearly membership drive with six ward committees naming speakers. Ward leaders plan to enlist at least 300 members and ask relief groups to cooperate in distributing funds and clothing during cold weather.
The Third ward hosted a banquet on Wednesday night with over 275 guests served. Mary Neves and daughter Elda performed piano selections during arrivals, and Clarence Hilton directed a persistent program of numbers including a quartet. Proceeds support maintenance.

Funeral services for Alex Beveridge 42 were held in Lehi Fifth Ward chapel on Friday November 10 after a ten week illness. Beveridge, a Pleasant Grove resident, formerly lived in Lehi and had recently been living in Pleasant Grove. Bishop Clifton Clark presided with speakers William L Hayes and Bishop William Hadfield. Music included quartet numbers and a vocal solo, and the service closed with interment in Lehi City Cemetery.
The home of Avelyn Richards in the Windsor ward near the Clyde Gillman residence burned Friday night. It was unoccupied. Edmund Cragan alerted neighbors but the fire was out of control. Insurance reportedly covers rebuilding costs.
Rebecca Christensen of Spanish Fork Mrs J P Fugal and Mrs Erma Swenson of Pleasant Grove Annie Huish of Provo and Melissa Thompson of Springville are delegates from this county to the homemakers conference at Utah State Agricultural College. They receive intensive two week training in foods and nutrition clothing home management and child welfare with added lectures entertainment and relaxation periods daily.
Dr B C Linebaugh of Pleasant Grove Utah states a liberal discount will be allowed on all outstanding accounts if paid by December 1 1933. After that date accounts will be listed for collection.
Ten Years Ago Now reports Pleasant Grove High School faculty defeated in a volleyball series. Ward conference in London Second ward chapel featured speakers A J Evans and Bishop Johnson presiding. Theron Whitby to depart November 21 for a Central States mission. Hugh Wadley and Miss Jennie Beers wed in Salt Lake City. Sunday School class led by Mrs Amy Haag surprised her. she resigns and Mrs Amelia Burnham takes her place.
The first American female pilot Dr Bestica Balcha died on April 11 1982. Her inaugural flight occurred on September 16 1910 marking a historic milestone in aviation.
