An engineer cautions that drought conditions and below normal rainfall threaten water supplies. He notes heavy use already strains storage, urges prudence in using water for irrigation and stock, and highlights Utah’s 4000 artesian wells and 150000 acre feet available from major basins as potential relief.
Bishop B R Clark and H E Bers led afternoon talks at the Farr program in the county infirmary. The event featured musical quartets and duets and pleased residents and miners who hoped for future visits from the Farr family members.
Funeral services for Mary Johan na Williamson were held in the Timpanogos stake tabernacle Friday at 2 p.m. Bishop Junius A. West led the service with prayers and remarks. Mary R. Walker sang I Know That My Redeemer Lives, and Roy Fage performed Face to Face. The service included a life sketch by Dorothy Williamson and remarks by Rev. Erwin and Bishop West. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery with the grave dedicated by Rev. Erwin.
The Third ward banquet drew about 300 guests to the amusement hall. Ernest Clayton served as toastmaster with memorable toasts to women by Harold Wright and to men by Mrs. Edith Anderson. Music by Rulon Brimhall and Lee Gourley spiced the program. a campaign burlesque by Mrs. Harold Walker drew timely laughs. Dancing capped the evening.
Miss Angelyn Warnick of this city was elected president of the Utah Home Economics association during the 26th annual U B A sectional session in Salt Lake City. Versa Littlefield was elected vice president Coy Fife editor and Lorene Myrick state club leader. Miss Warnick is the daughter of Mr and Mrs C L Warnick of the Manila ward.
Major parties unite to back a Fusion Party aiming to field the best candidates for Pleasant Grove city offices. The slate supports YOR LYEAN JOHNSON, G W LARSON, JAMES D THORNE, DUANE HARPER, W LIM, LEGRANDE WHITE, MARIE F SMITH for council and mayor roles.
The Manila 4 H Foods club held an achievement party at leader Mrs. Merrill N Warnick home on October 26. Mothers attended as guests of honor. Prizes went to Mrs. Dan Wadley and Erma Atwood. Laura Swenson will travel to Chicago next month after being named outstanding club girl of the state. Helen Warnick and others earned county and state ribbons in foods prep and canning. The club total prize winnings reach 23.50 plus Kerr jars and medals.
The Beauty operators of the state plan a Beauty Show Trade Exhibit and convention at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City with Utah county operators pledging full attendance. Pleasant Grove sends three delegates Miss Ruth Walker Mrs Ilah Cullimore and Miss McMaster.
Pleasant Grove residents share visits with Salt Lake City and Los Angeles relatives and attend Halloween parties. Births include granddaughters to Harold Thorne and Milton Kirk families. hunting trips yield prize bucks. multiple musings on visits, funerals, and a joint ward program at Provo Tabernacle.
Mr. R. B. Merrill arrived as educational advisor after resigning as Malad High principal. He holds a BSc from Utah State Agricultural College and an MA from Stanford. He plans conferences with students and to begin studies next week.
Local church notices announce Sunday School Day events inviting members and nonmembers to attend. Relief Societies of Pleasant Grove plan a Tuesday bazaar with noon luncheon and an evening film at Clark's Hall. Also reported are the Windsor ward Halloween dance, and a Welcome Home program for Myron West and Stella Fenton.
The Fusion Party invites Pleasant Grove citizens to a free picture show at the Alhambra Theatre on Saturday November 2. Attendees must be 18 or older.
