Pleasant Grove High School 1959 commencement program

The Pleasant Grove High School 1959 commencement exercises take place tonight at the Timpanogos Stake House at 7:30 with a star themed program. Performances include Joye Nelson Deanna Pendergraft and Karen Robinson singing words and chorals. Brice Gray delivers the welcome. soloists Robert Wilcox Joye Nelson and Kay Adamson perform. President Boyd L. Fugal will award diplomas. Rev. Shelley Mitchell gives the closing prayers. class officers are Brice Gray Dean Richards and Howard Rees.

West Named Permanent Chairman of Pleasant Grove Pool Committee

Eleroy H. West was named permanent chairman of the Pleasant Grove swimming pool committee at a city hall meeting. Councilman Lewis J. Harmer said West will survey the field and appoint chairmen for subcommittees and report back at the next meeting.

Bishopric Honor Sunday Planned in Manila Ward Service

The Manila Ward will honor its bishopric and ward clerks and their wives during Sunday evening services led by the Melchizedek Priesthood. Merrill N. War lek serves as general chairman with Gwen Adams directing music and the Junior Sunday School Chorus. Speakers include Alex Wadley Ivan Monson John Swenson Byrd Allen Adena W. Swenson. Rodeo Queen Selection Set for Local Arena Event

The Strawberry Days Rodeo in Pleasant Grove will crown a Rodeo Queen Saturday at 7 p.m. Only girls 16 and older may compete, judged on horsemanship and personality. A. Ray Green chairs the contest. Kenneth R. Gillman handles entries. Attendants receive season tickets. cash prizes awarded. Boys ages 10 to 16 may race calves with signed waivers.

A Battle Creek observer writes of family duties on Memorial Day and the meaning of the holiday. He recalls attending the American Legion and the solemn gathering at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, stressing honesty, faith, and communal values as guiding principles.

O M Shoemaker elected president of the Pleasant Grove Lions Club at the recent meeting. Other officers named include Jesse Monson first vice president Maron Oveson second vice president Ray Mills, third vice president William E Peterson secretary M S Wright tail twister Ted Jones Lion Jamer and Dean Christensen directors Joel Parker Ray Green and Russell Schow. Shoemaker a registered professional engineer moved from Los Angeles in 1952 and has long worked in construction cost estimating at Consolidated Western Steel. He has lived in Pleasant Grove since 1952, married Mary Lee in 1903, and recently received a 10 year service pin from the company. He has chaired the Board of Adjustment and directed Lions Club projects including signs to guide travelers to the city and Fairyland Park activities with the State Training Program.

Contest for Dairy Princess Set for Seera on Monday

The Dairy Princess contest for the Seera area will be held June 1 at the Seara Theatre in Orem. Eight young ladies compete including four from Pleasant Grove. Contestants will be interviewed by judges after a 1 pm briefing, followed by a program at 7 30 pm featuring the Manila Male Chorus. Tickets available at the door or from members.

Linden Council Tackles Water, Park, and Recreation Needs

Linden City Council discussed water pooling on seeded areas near Ute School and reviewed plans for using a neighbor’s land for a baseball diamond with city equipment. The group allocated funds for summer recreation, eyed street sign purchases postponement, and directed reviews of road gravel, dog tax collections, and city maps of water lines and hydrants.

Scouts from Timp Stake will help at Grove City Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend. They will assist with carrying water and containers and offer courteous help to women children and the elderly. The service emphasizes service without pay and respectful conduct toward all.

Four more entrants join the Pleasant Grove Strawberry Days Queen and Miss Pleasant Grove pageant to be held next Thursday June 4 at the Timpanogos Stake House. Contestants Nancy Lee Smith Gloria Dawn Hanks Patricia Ann Morgan and Marilyn Niekeen perform talents from singing to dramatic readings with backing by Mrs. Ashby Snow Dower as mistress of ceremonies. Milton Adamson Re-elected American Legion Head

Milton Adamson was reelected to lead American Legion Post 70 at a meeting in Pleasant Grove. New officers were installed, including Paterson as first vice commander and Matthews as second vice commander. The group voted to host the 1969 junior baseball state tournament in Pleasant Grove August 4 to 7 and to support sending PGHS juniors to the state convention in Logan next July.
