Palmer Named Pleasant Grove Stake President in Utah

Mack Palmer was named Pleasant Grove Utah Stake president at the Alpine Tabernacle with Elder S Dilworth Young as visiting authority. He succeeds Leon Walker who became Chile Concepcion Mission president. Palmer, BYU Home Study chair, has served as Grave Ward bishop and high council member. Counsellors A Clyde Hill Neal Greenwood sustained. Harold Erickson Joseph Ash Doyle Young Daniel Nehring Robert Fotheringham kept. Bill Keetch remains executive secretary.

Seminary Graduation Honors Combined Pleasant Grove and Timpanogos

On Friday May 20 1977 the 56th annual graduation exercises will honor graduates from Pleasant Grove and Timpanogos Stakes at the Timpanogos Stake Center starting 7 00 p m. Ninety nine Pleasant Grove graduates receive diplomas with seven certificates while 68 Timpanogos graduates receive diplomas with four certificates. Six graduates from other stakes also receive diplomas. President Evan Mack Palmer and President David C Harvey will present awards. Rex Reeve Jr Institute Director will deliver the guest address.

Rodeo Queen Contest Set After Rainout

Adamson and Strawberry Days Rodeo chairmen announce the Rodeo Queen contest will be held Wednesday May 28 with the same schedule as planned. Tea for contestants at 5 p.m. at West Winds Cafe, preliminaries for kids and roping for adults begin about 7 20 p.m. Queen contest around 8 p.m. with later events for older contestants. Local cowboys may sign up for competition.

Walker Named Mission President for Chili Concepcion Mission

Leon R Walker is called to preside over the Chili Concepcion Mission and will attend a June mission seminar. A farewell is planned for late June. He and his wife Zeona, parents of nine, will be accompanied by three of their children. Continued on page 3.

Bezzant Named Outstanding Young Man of America

Mark Bezzant has been selected as one of Outstanding Young Men of America for the 1977 edition. About 11 000 young men nationwide are chosen for their voluntary service, leadership, academics, business, culture, and civic or political involvement.

Abbie Francom Receives Eagle Award At Eagles Banquet

Abbie M. Francom, Pleasant Grove High School teacher, earned the Teacher Appreciation Award from the Fraternal Order of Eagles Pleasant Grove Aerie No 3372. The honor was announced at the Eagles Banquets on Saturday the 14th as she and her husband James D Francom attended the dinner social.

Pleasant Grove High School Commencement May 27

Pleasant Grove High School will hold commencement exercises Friday May 27 in the gym at 7 30 p m. The event has no seating limit and no tickets are required. Seniors with a GPA of 3 85 or better are named as graduates with Lynette Macfarlane and Raymond Walker as valedictorians. The program features multiple students speaking on themes such as future horizons and reaching beyond mediocrity, a flute solo, a mixed chorus, and diplomas presented by school officials.

Zelda Anderson Retires From Pleasant Grove High School

Zelda Larsen Anderson, longtime Pleasant Grove High School teacher and mentor for nine years, retires this spring. She is wife of Warren Anderson, daughter of Hyrum and Henrietta Larsen, mother of Kenneth and Gary, and grandmother of eight. Anderson earned an English degree from Brigham Young University and studied business, with earlier education at Lincoln High in Orem. She also attended George Washington University and the University of (incomplete text).

Long Agenda Spurs Several City Actions

The city council met in regular session Tuesday approving Mark Hales and Sterling Boren for service in the Volunteer Fire Department. Keith Keetch proposed an Eagle Scout project to repaint and clean the fire station, with supplies authorized. Utah County Fair Board announced the county fair dates August 17, 18 and 19 at Spanish Fork.

Kiwanis Club Gives $500 for Health Scholarships at P G High

Pleasant Grove Kiwanis renewed the school health service scholarship fund with a $500 donation, bringing total community gifts to $6,500. Principal Gourley said the amount will be used to award yearly scholarships determined by the school committee, targeting students pursuing health service careers.
