Grove Chamber of Commerce directors met Tuesday night to plan Strawberry Day on June 10 with a parade and entertainment. Prizes total 500 dollars with first prize 150 dollars and multiple cash awards, aiming to attract more participation and merchants.

Thrilling bear encounter near Canyon shocks two aviators

Reported Monday near the head of Canyon two aviators saw a large brown bear in a hollow close to a pipeline crew site. Richins, describing the event, recalled a narrow escape as the bear approached within about 30 feet before the men retreated to safety.

Priesthood Outing Planned by Utah County Stake

A Utah county stake schedules a priesthood outing on Saturday with five members expected to attend. They will depart at 8:00 a.m. and stake leaders will provide transportation and anchor provisions as needed.

Scout Camporee Brings Pleasant Grove Boys Together

The Boy Scouts of Pleasant Grove held a camporee at Stove Tuesday night with fifteen tents and forty scouts. M S Christiansen led, LeGrande Jarman directed entertainment, and Dr Pfonty of Payson gave a talk. A wig bonfire story telling and contests entertained the group as they camped overnight and cooked meals.

Clara M Bullock Dies at 78 in Pleasant Grove

Clara M Bullock aged 78 died at her Pleasant Grove home after a month long illness. She was born there on April 15 1859 to Orlando and Jane Heron pioneers of the town and married Alexander Bullock in Salt Lake City in 1875. Her funeral was held at the Timpanogos stake tabernacle with remarks praising her thrift charity and community service. The National Youth Administration with Alpine School District planted roses and shrubs around major schools and prepared grounds during Strawberry Day. An official truck and trailer inspection program at Pleasant Grove CCC Camp completed with state standard stickers.

A successful concert by Lett American Folk Pleas ant Grove and Lincoln orchestras filled the High School Auditorium Sunday night. Leo Hansen directed as J W Gillman gave the invocation and various choirs and soloists performed under noted instructors. The event highlighted local musical talent and civic pride.

Committee Named to Work On New Chapel Plans

The First ward approves committees to plan a new chapel building. The finance group lists many members led by Lewis Olpin with Armitstead and Buhler as assistants and Arvel Daksen as secretary and treasurer. A separate building committee with Thomas Fenton as chair and Rulon Brimhall as secretary will meet with an architect to lay out plats and allotments this week.
