Sandi Christensen Wins Junior Rodeo Queen Title

Sandi Christensen won the 77 Jr Rodeo Queen title judged by Barbara Owen of American Folk. First attendant Kaylene Richins and second attendant Lisa Wood were named, with several Lindon and Pleasant Grove contestants noted. the trio will join Strawberry Days royalty and attend the rodeo queen luncheon and nightly presentations.

Strawberry Days Rodeo Queen to Be Crowned Saturday

The 1977 Strawberry Days Rodeo Queen will be chosen Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in the local rodeo arena. Seven girls have signed up. more may join until 4 p.m. Saturday. Contestants meet judges at a tea prior to interviews led by Tom Adamson and Arnold Green.

Special Awards Mark Pleasant Grove FBLA Night

At Pleasant Grove High School FBLA Awards Night on May 5, Scott Walker earned the annual scholarship, Michelle Johnson was named Outstanding Business Student, and Carrie Pisher the Outstanding Typist. Certificates honored Cooperative Office Education employers and student learners from multiple local schools. Dr. Lucille Stoddard spoke on self image as a path to achievement.

Mary Jane Hegyessy Called to LDS Mission

Mary Jane Hegyessy and husband Harold M. Hegyessy have been called to the missionary field by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A farewell is set for Sunday May 15 at 3 p.m. in the Sixteenth Ward Chapel. Mary Jane, a Viewmont High School and Brigham Young University graduate, plans to testify and serve.

Hospital Week Proclaimed in Utah May 8 To 14

Governor proclaims May 8 through 14 as Hospital Week in Utah to honor hospitals and staff for enduring care and modern treatment. Blood pressure clinics glaucoma and diabetes tests plus public classes on prenatal care diet immunization and exercise are planned statewide. The Utah State Hospital Association urged public participation at community observances and noted remarks by Merlin K DuVal at its mid year meeting in Park City.

Outstanding Air Force Cadet Arthur L. Bastian Named

Arthur L. Bastian son of Mr and Mrs Raymond K Bastian of Pleasant Grove Utah is honored as an outstanding AFROTC cadet at Brigham Young University Provo. He received the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Award for academic achievement and military excellence and will be commissioned as Air Force second lieutenant after graduation. He is a 1971 Pleasant Grove High School graduate.

Steven Ray Brown, son of Mr and Mrs E Ray Brown Jr of Lindon, is called to the Buenos Aires South Mission in Argentina. A farewell will be held Sunday May 15 at 6 p.m. in the Lindon Ward Chapel before he enters the Language Training Mission on May 19. All friends and relatives are invited.

Kenneth L. Duvall son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Duvall is called to an LDS mission in Australia Brisbane. A farewell is set for May 15 at 5 p.m. in the Sixth-Tenth Ward. Elder Duvall has held Priesthood offices and served as seminary zone leader for 24 years. He will enter the mission home May 21 as President Walker presides and Elder S Dilworth Young leads conference. The weekend sessions move to American Fork Stake Tabernacle and Pleasant Grove Stake Center with adults 18 and older invited.

Pleasant Grove High School hosts its annual art show on May 18 from 7 30 to 10 p m in the girls gym The public is invited The art department displays drawings crafts oil paintings architectural designs pottery sculptures and more Alton Howe directs the department with show chairpersons Lisa Jenkins Marie Morehead and Sam Adams.

Pre Season Meet Warmly Promotes Local Angling News

Central Regional office of the Division of Wildlife Resources sponsors a pre-season information meeting for the 1977 general fishing season. Dennis Shirley outlines the agenda including fish management stocking programs enforcement and local water conditions. Attendees can ask where to go how to fish what to fish with and new regulations. The meeting is May 12 at 7 30 PM in the Provo City Utilities Building Provo.
