Seminary Graduation Exercises Set for May 13

The L DS Seminary of Timpanogos Stake will hold graduation exercises next Tuesday May 13 under principal William Smith. The sixty one graduates, both young men and women, will present talks and musical numbers themed The Spirit of the Pioneer in Song and Story. The event begins at 8 o'clock in the High School auditorium and is open to the public.

Allen Pederson Funeral Held Monday

Funeral services for Allen Pederson were conducted Monday at the Third Ward LDS Chapel with American Legion Post No. 70 involvement. Attendees included family and out-of-town relatives from Salt Lake City Grand Junction Oasis Long Beach Syracuse American Fork Logan and other locations.

Funeral Rites Wednesday For Fred Culmer

Relatives and friends gathered at Pleasant Grove First Ward chapel for Fred Culmer's funeral service conducted by Lindon ward officials. Speakers praised his thrift and trustworthiness. interment followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery with family pallbearers. Culmer, born March 16, 1884 in Pleasant Grove, was a farmer and painter involved in civic and church activities. survived by a widow, three children, a foster son, two sisters, ten grandchildren, and other relatives.

Sunday School Honors Mothers at Grove Ward Service

Sunday School plans a Mothers Day tribute next Sunday morning with a program by the Grove ward under Superintendent Floyd Randall. Floyd Hilton presents God's Greatest Gift My Mother, Mrs. Dale West gives the tribute to mothers, Ellen Brady sings Ways I can help my Mother, Helen Pyler performs My Mother Taught Me, tokens presented to Mothers, and music led by Major Supray school directed by Rees A Smith.

Indians Are Coming On Strawberry Day

Thirty Shoshone Indians will be brought to Pleasant Grove for Utah Strawberry Days June 4 5 6 and 7 according to Neldon Lim president of the local rodeo association. They will par ticipate in the parades and entertain the crowds at the four night rodeos in highly colored costumes and will be an outstanding feature. Jean Anderson of Pleasant Grove is named valedictorian of the 1947 BYU graduating class, as announced by Howard S. McDonald president. She will deliver the commencement address June 4 and receive a bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences with a history major. Her four year total includes 176 credit hours A and 7 B credit for a 2.96 average. She is active in White Key and other student activities and is a Pleasant Grove High School alumna.

Strawberry Queen Vote Starts May 10 in Pleasant Grove

The Strawberry Day Queen election begins May 10 with 10 votes per entry. Names listed include Ruth Beck and Louise Brimhall among hopefuls. A four day Centennial program in Pleasant Grove features meetings parades rodeo and a large crowd anticipated for opening day.

Lindon Resident Dies Sunday

Lindon resident Alexander Leonard Millar 63 died Sunday at 7 15 PM at the family home after a lingering illness. Born October 5 1883 in American Fork he married Elizabeth Green in 1906 and lived in American Fork Magna before moving to Pleasant Grove in 1920. He left a widow seven sons and daughters and 11 grandchildren with several siblings. Funeral services are scheduled Saturday at 2 PM in the Pleasant Grove First Ward Chapel.

Manila MIA Officers Entertain Hickory Stick Cast

Manila ward MIA officers hosted a Tuesday evening party for the cast and directors of the three act comedy The Hickory Stick. The event honored the performance team after shows in ward, at the State Training School, and American Folk First ward with games and refreshments.

Junior High Day Promotion Exercises May Fourteen

May 14 marks the ninth grade high school promotion with 2 80 to 3 30 sessions for those admitted to senior high. A junior high school promotion system and awards program were created under Mr Rees. The day ends with a gym dance, as Ray Nelson notes.

Veterans of Foreign Wars to Install Officers May 12

The local VFW post will hold an installation meeting Monday May 12 at 5 pm in the high school auditorium. State VFW officers will install year 1947 officers and present films on wartime and peacetime military activities for public benefit.

The May lineup includes Civic Centennial Health Day in Smithfield, multiple theater shows such as Peg O My Heart at Helper and Blossom Time in Ogden and Panguitch, and art exhibits No 1 2 3 across Junction Tooele Panguitch and Cossville. A LDS pageant and Broadway musical Joan of Lorraine appear at Salt Lake City and Kingsbury Hall with ticket access via bishops or Centennial officers.

Poppy Day Sale Plans Completed in Pleasant Grove

Volunteers from the Auxiliary of Post No 70 and young Women in the city organize Poppy Day distributions. Mrs Leo Harvey and the Poppy Chairman announce that volunteers will hand out memorial poppies and collect funds for disabled veterans families and the dead.

Strawberry Day Rodeo Set With Four Day Event

Dr J C Sorenson, rodeo producer, plans the Strawberry Thy Rodeos in Pleasant Grove June 4 5 6 and 7 with about a hundred cowboys. Prize money totals around 4000 attracting top talent. Sorenson will attend Heldorado in Las Vegas to recruit World champion rodeo men. Officials report 40 certificates credits toward World's Championship Honors and events include steer roping bull riding bronc riding saddle bronc and other rodeo competitions with 2124 per event and daily prize money of 625.
