Miniature Floats to Glorify Girls in Strawberry Day Parade

Pleasant Grove plans a miniature parade featuring peat crop children as a top Strawberry Day highlight. June 12 to 14 were approved, with queen candidates to be chosen May 21 and a final coronation to follow. Committees for parade, advertising, programs, queen selection, and decorations were named led by L A Clark and others.

Primaries And Conference In Timpanogos Stake Sunday

Primary ward conference in the Timpanogos Stake scheduled for Sunday May 6 across six wards. The 782 enrolled Primary children will perform under the theme The Children’s Friend with songs stories and dramatization. Grove ward begins at 5:30 p.m with other wards at 7:90 p.m.

Beehive Swarm Day Set For May 9 In First Ward Chapel

The annual Timpanogos Stake Beehive Swarm Day will be held Wednesday May 9 at 8 pm in the First ward chapel. Invitations go to Beehive girls and mothers and Seagull girls and their mothers. The program features music readings talks and awards including presentations by various wards and a Beehive chorus.

Lynell Johnson Sings Solo at Saint Marys Glee Club Concert

Miss Lynell Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs Lycan Johnson of Pleasant Grove was featured as a soloist in a College of Saint Mary of the Wasatch glee club concert in Salt Lake City. The program ranged from early mandragals to modern harmonies and included Negro spirituals Czech folk songs and Faust by Gounod. Johnson also performed in a recent musicale at the Hotel Utah.

Rodeo Queen Contest Planned for May 30 in Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove Riding Club invites Utah County girls aged 16 and over to enter a May 30 rodeo queen contest at the Pleasant Grove rodeo grounds. Prizes are 25 dollars for the queen and 15 dollars for each attendant, with judging based on horsemanship.

Funeral for Lehi Pioneer George Barnes Attended

A large group of relatives and Pleasant Grove residents attended the funeral of George Barnes at the Lehi Third Ward L D S Chapel. Local participants included Mrs. Lewis Wells who read the life sketch, Mrs. S W Hilton, Elwood Allen with Mrs. Warren Kirk in a duet, and prayers by C R Clark and Reuben Tomlinson at the graveside in Lehi Cemetery. Barnes, a noted Lehi pioneer, died last week after a month illness.

Garden Club Tour Planned for Pleasant Grove Area

The Pleasant Grove Garden Club will tour notable gardens on Thursday May 10. First stop is Iron's Garden in Orem followed by Bush Dixon's tulip garden in Provo. Meet at the Pleasant Grove Seminary at 2 p.m. Cars will provide transportation.

City Upgrading Water Pipes In Two City Sections

City officials announce a two section water mains upgrade to handle growth. A 4 inch main replaces one inch lines from Second North to Third North and Fifth East to Seventh East, with two new fire plugs and hydrants installed to boost fire protection for about 12 homes and a future subdivision. Total project cost about 2840 for pipe work plus 3300 for hydrants and fittings.

Poppy Day Poster Awards At Pleasant Grove High School

Senior Ad Vanwyk won first with a poppy day poster at Pleasant Grove High School contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Jerry Sorenson placed second in junior high Helen Woollston took first in a junior division with Anita Ahlstrom second. Awards were presented at the Auxiliary meeting at Mrs Piersons home with Mrs Burton Adams presenting medals of gold silver and bronze.

Mrs. Macfarlane Elected Daughters of Utah Pioneers President

Nora Macfarlane was elected president of the local Daughters of Utah Pioneers unit. Berniece Monson and Cora Atwood were named first and second vice presidents, with Gladys Hilton as secretary. Other officers and committee members include Mary Neves organist, Cleone Kirk chorister, Emma Overiade historian, and Lucile H. Walker Lorena Warnick as class teachers. The meeting was held at the Macfarlane home.

Edwin Taylor Named Pleasant Grove Recreation Director

Edwin Taylor was selected as the Pleasant Grove recreation director, to coordinate general activities and the schedule. He brings prior activity work in grade school scouting and directing children's recreation. The city hall meeting outlined a girls recreation program including shape tennis, handicraft, softball and dancing with dancing possibly removed if interest lags. a summer program aims to have a schedule by June 1 and activation by June 15.

Beautification of Triangle at Main and Highway 91 Starts

The triangle at the Main Street and Highway 1 intersection becomes a civic project led by the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce Lions Club and Jaycees. The plan includes an eight inch cement ring around the triangle, a yard sprinkler system, and grass to improve visibility and remove a parking blind spot for safer traffic flow.

Elder Stapley to Speak at Timpanogos Stake Graduation

Elder Delbert S Stapley of the Council of the Twelve will be the guest speaker at the Thirtieth Annual graduation exercises of Timpanogos Stake Seminary in the high school auditorium on Thursday May 47 at 8 pm. Fifty one graduates will receive diplomas. Principal William C Smith reports the program is taking shape with many students participating.
