Pleasant Grove High School student Steven L Harvey is one of 24 top seniors nationwide to receive the Spencer W Kimball Scholarship at Brigham Young University. The award covers 1200 dollars annually for four years, requiring a 0.5 GPA and an ACT of 29 or higher, placing Harvey in the nation’s top 2 percent.

Geneva Honors 316 Utah Steelmakers At Luncheons

Three hundred sixteen Utah steelmakers, the largest group ever, were honored for innovations boosting Geneva’s competitiveness during 1976 and improving product quality and efficiency. Special awards went to Rolling Mills and Accounting departments. four Idea Men of the Year were named including Gil Beranek and Wes Lane.

Bezzant Speaks at Kiwanis Breakfast on Sponsored Youth

Pleasant Grove City Councilman E Mark Bezzant addressed the Kiwanis Club at the 7am Saturday breakfast. The talk centered on sponsored youth and was organized by Kiwanis activity chairman Keith Sterling. Bezzant, former president of the first Key Club at Pleasant Grove High, is a BYU graduate who returned to teach at the high school.

She has a 3.9 GPA, works part time at Bayly Corp, participates in NHS and FBLA, leads clubs, excels in archery with multiple state and sectional titles, and plans to attend Colorado Northwestern Community College while aiming for Olympic archery.

The Pleasant Grove Review reports the initial entrants for the 1977 Strawberry Days Queen Pageant. Cecelia Allen, Lindon daughter of Marion and first to be highlighted, is a Pleasant Grove High School senior with hobbies in skiing horseback riding and cake decoration. She is sponsored by the Fireman's Auxiliary and will perform a talent reading. Joyce Bastian, daughter of Raymond and Donna Bastian, is a 1976 Pleasant Grove High School graduate now studying fashion merchandising at Utah Technical College Provo. Her sponsor is the Kiwanis Club.

Pleasant Grove Seniors Rise as Century Leaders Awardees

Raymond Walker and Richard Mortensen, Utah winners, competed at the National Conference of Century US Leaders in Williamsburg and Washington. Raymond did not reach finalists but earned a $1,000 scholarship. Mortensen also won a $1,000 award. The program is run by the National Association of Secondary School Principals with Shell Oil funding.

Annual Spring Range Ride Set April 9 17

The Division of Wildlife Resources announces the annual spring range ride for deer herd unit 14 in North Utah County on April 9 and 17. Participants meet at Orem Park mouth of Provo Canyon at 9 am April 9 and at Pleasant Grove for the April 17 ride. Bring a sack lunch.

Pleasant Grove Planning Commission invites all northeast town residents to a 6:00 p.m. meeting on Thursday April 7 1977 at city hall to review future residential development. Several subdivision plans are under review including a 200 plus lot project with planned unit developments and condominiums.
