Public Meeting Set for Sewer Plant Discussion

Wrestling Clinic Registration Saturday at Pleasant Grove

The Pleasant Grove City Recreation Wrestling Program announces registration this Saturday March 13 at 12 noon at the Boys Gym of the Sr High. Open to grade school boys from third to sixth. fees are 5 dollars for Tri-City participants and 8 dollars for others, with a wrestling T-shirt included.

Kearns Orchestra Concert At Valley View

The Kearns Symphonic Orchestra of 35 players conducted by Mary Smith Bryan performed at Valley View Elementary School on March 4. The program included selections from Sound of Music, March Stave by Tchaikovsky, Ballet Parisien, Offenbach, and American Salute by Morton Gould, with an explanation of orchestra sections.

American Legion Essay Contest Winners Announced

Winners of the American Legion contest were honored at a February 26 reception at Venice Foegal’s home. The Pleasant Grove High School winners were Joyce Bastian first, Keith Sayre second, and Sandra Haws third. Jr. High winners were Tim Bird first and Micki McCausland second. A bicentennial program followed with Donna Brock as guest speaker and a musical presentation by Pauline Olpin and her daughter Angela.

Alpine District Offers Green Thumb Adult Education Class

Alpine School District announces a Green Thumbs adult education course led by Emil Pierson of BYU. The eight week program meets Tuesdays at Orem High School Room B-11 at 7 30 pm or Thursdays at Orem Junior High Room 45 at 7 80 pm. Pinewood Derby Set Saturday March 27 at Jr High Gym

Pinewood Derby for Cub Scout boys will be held Saturday March 27 at 10 am in the old Jr High School Boys Gym. A 25 cent per day registration is charged. PTA Honors 2 Stake Presidents at Pleasant Grove Meeting

The Pleasant Grove PTA Council March meeting at the new Junior High School honored two stake presidents. Certificates recognized David Harvey and Leon Walker for their community and church work. Harvey is active locally. Walker, long-time London resident, has served as a scout master and in various organizations. A tour of the new school concluded the session.

City Chess Tourney Set for Wednesday and Thursday

The City Chess Tournament is scheduled for March 17 and 18 in the Pleasant Grove Jr High lunchroom under Russ Snyder. Evening play begins at 7 p.m with a $1.50 resident fee and $2.00 nonresidents. Returning Wednesday players who already paid may not pay again. Prizes will be awarded in ages 10 and under, 10-14, 15-17, and 18 and over.

Save Wetlands Theme For Nat Wildlife Week

The 39th National Wildlife Week will use Save Our Wetlands as its theme. More than 10 million students teachers and conservation group members are expected to participate March 14–20. National Wildlife Federation executive vice president Thomas L. Kimball emphasizes wetlands as vital to wildlife water purification and recreation. He laments development destroying wetlands and notes about 22 million acres are now being preserved, while urging further action.
