Queen Contestants Urged to Submit Pageant Applications

Entree Chairman Mel Sharon Fuller announced the Strawberry Days Pageant entries are flowing with enthusiasm. She praised the contestants for high quality and ability and urged applicants to return forms to Mrs. Fuller or Mrs. Memmett. Deadline noted as March 12.

Damages Repaid by Pleasant Grove District Ranger

Harry Opfar reports a resident sent eight dollars to repay damages to Service recreation facilities. The unsigned letter apologized for the harm done, praised the honesty, and highlighted that malicious acts cause thousands of dollars in losses annually on the Pleasant Grove Ranger District. The latest incident involved a dynamited cinder block toilet at Hope Campground.

Lydia Hilton to Be Honored on 80th Birthday Saturday

The Hilton family invites friends to an open house honoring Lydia A. Hilton on Saturday March 12 1977 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Lions Club Sportsman Center Pleasant Grove Utah. Born March 12 1897 in Lakeview she married Abel J. Ekins and after his death served an LDS mission in California before marrying S W Hilton. They raised seven children and have 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. The family requests no gifts.

Spencer W. Kimball to Speak at Utah Tech Dedication

Spencer W. Kimball will deliver the dedicatory address for Utah Technical College Utah Valley's new Orem campus on March 1. Four buildings will be completed for the ceremony including Automotive, Business, Student Center, and Mechanical Building with two more planned for fall 1978 including the Library and Trades Building. President Wilson W. Sorensen oversees the dedication and the newly named Sorensen Student Center. An open house follows the 10 a.m. service, inviting public attendance.

Alpine Credit Union Names State Queen Candidate

Miss Linda K. Walker will represent Alpine Credit Union in the Miss Credit Union Contest on March 11, 1977 in Salt Lake City at the Hilton. Linda, daughter of Don and Carol Walker of Orem and a student at Orem High, was chosen as Miss Alpine Credit Union.

Steven Harvey named BYU Scholar Candidate finalist

Steven Harvey son of James and Barbara Harvey is among forty top applicants invited to Brigham Young University for a final evaluation this month. Twenty four finalists will receive Spencer W Kimball Scholarships based on high school performance test results recommendations and interviews. Harvey a Pleasant Grove High senior is a National Merit Scholar finalist FBSA president National Honor Society member Young Americans team captain Concert Choir Stage Band varsity debate three year member state Legislative Forum finalist and Miss Alpine Credit Union contestant. Camille Hall and Leann Ash accompany Steven as attendants. Alpine Credit Union elects Irene Knight to the Board of Directors with other officers and new Credit and Supervisory Committee appointees named.

Donald G. Jewkes Called to LDS Mission Field

Donald Grant Jewkes, son of S. Grant Jewkes and Karma Lee Brown, is called to Ireland as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will enter the mission home March 18. A farewell is set for Sunday, March 13 at 245 p.m. in the Midvale 6th Ward House, 642 Jackson St. He has spent a year at Trade Tech and eight months at Signetics in Orem. Friends and relatives are invited to hear him bear his testimony.

Cancer Crusade Planning for 1977 Fund Drive Now On

Pleasant Grove launches the Cancer Crusade for 1977 with door to door volunteers educating neighbors about cancer warning signs and encouraging donations to the Cancer Society. The text notes improved survival through education, research, and treatment facilities, cites large numbers of cancer patients and deaths, and appeals for generosity to fund patient aid and rehabilitation.

Rodeo committee heads announce the Strawberry Days Rodeo Queen contest will be held Saturday May 14 1977. Entries open to girls 16 or older who have never been queen. St Patrick's day events for Young Special Interest group

The YSI hosts a weekend of Saint Patrick themed activities in Provo including a Friday soft rock dance at 3030 Mojave Lane with green attire and a Sar a band, a Saturday volleyball meetup at 650 East Stadium Ave, and a weekly Saturday night dance at 700 North 945 East. Sunday fireside at 7:30 pm in the Timp Stake Sixth Ward with Lynn McKinley, a March 13 and 20 two part meeting. A March 18 benefit concert with Marvin Payne at 85 South 900 East with tickets $2. Lynn McKinlay Speaks at Fireside Sessions in Pleasant Grove

Lynn McKinlay will headline a two session Fireside event in Pleasant Grove at the 6th-10th Ward Chapel on March 13 and March 20 starting at 7 30 p m. A children’s fireside for ages 6 to 12 will be offered with babysitting for ages 1 to 6, refreshments provided, and all Special Interest group members invited. McKinlay, a noted radio TV personality and Brigham Young University speech professor, is the speaker for the series.
