February permits totaled 10 with a value of 25000. Seven new homes valued at 204000, one mobile home, and two additions or remodels were approved. Jack Jeppson notes March could bring a stronger building season.
Pleasant Grove Debaters won 44 points to place first in the region and earn three teams and one alternate for the state meet at the University of Utah. Ruth Myers Steven Johnson Tammy Ellis and Mark Minson went undefeated in three rounds and qualified.
Pleasant Grove High School coach Darold Henry was chosen by area coaches as 3-A Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to a strong wrestling season. His teams have won three state titles and two runner-ups, with multiple state champions produced. Henry, father of three, serves as a teacher and LDS church leader, and he credits the coaching staff and townspeople for the program’s success.
Councilman Jack West led Wilt in a session to revise mobile home park rules. After lengthy discussion they forwarded recommendations for City Council approval. A Grovecrest Apartments plan was corrected and approved. Guy Wagal proposed a vicinity annexation plan with a future plat. Sage Tills final plate approved. signed by West and secretary Mary West.
Pleasant Grove placed second and earned the silver trophy at the 3-A State Tournament in Salt Lake City led by state champions Craig Walker at 119 pounds and Tim Hoffer at 185 pounds. Walker defeated Uintah’s Eugene Woody in the final, remaining undefeated on the season.
City council with Mayor Cornell Haynie discusses a UVIDA board representative after A B Gibson's death. They plan interviews for a new streets department light equipment operator starting March 16. Also review Kah County dog shelter proposal and backhoe needs for cemetery and possibly shared use.
Ezra Taft Benson will preside at the March 7 dedication of the Seventh Ward Chapel in Pleasant Grove. The event, at 1250 East 200 South, includes remarks by Bishops Clyde Crump and A Clyde Hill and Leon A Walker. The project aims to ease scheduling as the Eighth Ward moves into its own building.
The Fire Ladies Auxiliary held their annual Valentine Dinner for the firemen on Saturday February 21 at the Fire Station. Thirty two were served as husbands received gifts and Clara Edwards attended as a special guest. The article also discusses LDS ward building use and church growth nationwide.
Pleasant Grove hosts the 3A state tournament starting today at 4 15 with coach Burton leading a 5 2 trio tied for second after a coin toss. Spanish Fork, the region favorite with Susan Neely, faces Cedar City in the Thursday schedule alongside Davis vs Springville and Grove vs Bingham with all games in the Pleasant Grove main gym.
