Alhambra Theatre Plans Bicentennial Stage Show

The Alhambra Theatre in Pleasant Grove premieres Janice Thorne Dixon's prize winning play It's a Nice Day for a Miracle on Friday Aug 20 as part of the Bicentennial celebration. The piece recounts the 1879 Hole in the Rock trek to San Juan country with 250 travelers and is based on Dixon's historical research. The Utah Fine Arts Institute funds the production and awarded Dixon first place for the year 197?. A reception for descendants of the pioneers precedes the show at Pleasant Grove City Hall, with complimentary tickets for relatives. Open to public Aug 21 through Aug 28 with nightly shows at 4:00 pm.

Douglas Barton Called to Taiwan LDS Mission Field

Douglas Barton has been called to serve as a missionary in the Taipai Taiwan Mission. He will enter the Language Training facility at Brigham Young University on Aug. 5. Doug is the son of Norman and LuDene Barton. He is a Pleasant Grove High School graduate and a BYU sophomore with academic honors and the Board of Trustees scholarship. His farewell was held in his ward sacrament meeting on June 28.

Wasatch County Bicentennial Fair Opens Next Week

Wasatch County prepares for a week of events from August 2 to 7 featuring a PRCA sanctioned rodeo on Friday and Saturday, a two act production of 1 Do 1 Do, a demolition derby, horse racing, two giant parades, and a City of Fur Carnival. Exhibits include fine arts foods photography and ceramics with aTalent Show on August 5 and livestock stock show directed by George Holmes.

Ten Citizens Present Hear Sewer Plan Alternatives

The Pleasant Grove city council held a two session public meeting last Tuesday evening to review five wastewater treatment options and to conduct a formal EPA required public hearing. Only ten residents attended as consultant Leewimmer of Horrocks and Associates explained the plans and EPA and State Health requirements for cleaner water. He noted the city must produce class C water, while the current plant yields only class D and operates at hydraulic overload due to population growth.

Lindon City Council Meets July 13 to Conduct Business

Lindon City Council met in regular session Tuesday July 13 with Mayor Willard Johnson presiding. Present were council members Douglas Johnson Var Gillman Wayne B Johnson Brian Pead Nyal Smith Harold Erickson recorder Larry Johnson and city staff. The group noted 3 CETA layoffs due to funding cuts and gravel hauling for the amphitheater site. They reported progress on the summer youth program dry canyon springs work water tanks and park maintenance with several water line repairs. UVIDA representatives Richard Bradford and Ray Lauck discussed new county businesses and upcoming industrial prospects thanking the council for support and AVID's budget details.

Bruce Henriksen Called to LDS New York Mission

Bruce L Henriksen son of Lula Marie and LaMont Henriksen has been called to the New York City Mission field by the LDS Church. His farewell was July 1976. He will enter the mission home after graduation from Pleasant Grove High School and Seminary and has worked in construction of the Language Training Mission in Provo. He is a member of the Sidewinders Club Utah Capter.

Randy Peterson Returns From LDS Mission in Florida

Randy Peterson son of Bob and Roberta Peterson of Pleasant Grove returns home from a Florida Fort Lauderdale Mission. He arrived July 22 and will be welcomed August 15 at 5 am in the Ninth Ward. He served as District Leader in Melbourne Lakeland and Miami Key West and was a zone leader in West Palm Beach. He reports Florida as receptive and baptisms were performed. He will attend BYU this fall.

Wizard of Oz Comes to Pleasant Grove High School Stage

Dorthy roles will be played by Bernice Pymm and Linda Ivie with Mark Bonham and Don Fenton as Tin Man. Annette Wall and John Pymm alternate as Scarecrow while James Wadley and Tom Gilson switch as Cowardly Lion. Keith Wesley stars as Oz with Virginia Fulton and Shaure Firth as the Good Sorceress. Performances start July 29 in the high school courtyard with proceeds aiding recreation activities. Assistants include Holly Walker and director Mr Bulkley.
