Old Folks Summer Outing a Successful Affair

The Timpanogos Stake held a quarterly conference naming officers and counselors. James D. Thorne Milton Smith Wallace Morley and others were released as officers. Hyrum P. Jones H W field Clark Lucan Johnson were named to preside Fifth Quorum of Elders with new counselors listed. The Old Folks committee and YW Primary counselors were updated. New vacancies filled include Hyrum P. Jones as high councilman Byron D Fisher as Fifth Quorum president LeGrande Jarman and others named as counselors and staff.

Primary Jamboree Big Success

The Primary Jamboree drew 182 attendees in the grove on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00. Mrs. Joseph Day led songs before groups formed and stories were told by Harold Walker as an Indian chief and Emma Bush in Holy Land attire among others.

Death Calls Mrs Annie Smith in Salt Lake Hospital

Mrs Annie Smith 68 wife of the late Fred Smith died at the 1 Dos hospital Salt Lake Thursday morning after an operation for goltre undergone Monday. She leaves children Margaret Atwood Clifton Smith Abbie Peterson Helen and Leslie Smith Ralph Smith and other relatives. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 30 p m in the Third ward chapel.

The Pleasant Grove three wards hold a conjoint M I A meeting Sunday evening July 4 on the tabernacle lawn. Karl Banks will deliver the oration and musical numbers are arranged. After years without a celebration the community should attend. Services start at 7:30 p m and all are invited.

Boy Injured When Car Overturns in Highland

Athol Ross 15, son of Mr and Mrs Lester Ross, sustained serious injuries when the automobile he rode in with Harold Stoker and Paul Mason overturned on Highland road Wednesday night. The car veered to the roadside, rolled, and ditched. Athol’s side and ribs were badly hurt. Paul Mason had scratches and bruises. Mr Beck transported Athol to the hospital. City Marshal Niron Fowler investigated.

Utah Sales Tax Tokens Begin July 1 Regulation Explained

The Utah State Tax Commission outlines the new sales tax token system to collect the 2 percent tax on small purchases. Vendors must add tax as a separate item and cannot absorb it. One mill and five mill tokens represent fractions of the tax, to be used only for fractional cents. Tokens supplied at the Capitol or Tax Commission offices. banks may handle them as a customer service. Vendors face heavy fines for noncompliance.

Ten Years Ago From Sly 2 Files 1927 Lights on Telephone Service

Ten years ago the telephone company surveyed subscribers and inspected lines. New phones were installed where needed and minor repairs made to improve service. Linemen will recheck all lines later for quality. State health agents also surveyed culinary water in towns and sent Pleasant Grove water samples for testing.

Dedication of Amphitheatre At Mutual Dell Amphi Theatre

A large crowd gathered at Mutual Dell in American Fork canyon for the dedication of the rustic amphitheatre recently completed under Wasatch National Forest supervision. The event featured a dedicatory prayer, a principal address by Harrison Merrill, and music from Lehi American Fork Pleasant Grove groups. The venue seats 800 with concrete stage and half log benches. Silver Wedding Anniversary and Ward Festival

Mr and Mrs H M Nelson hosted Saturday evening June 25 in honor of their Silver Wedding. The lawn was lit and seating provided for guests. A well planned program of games and amusements followed. The Windsor ward festival to raise ward maintenance funds at the church June 25 was a social and financial success with a ball game, Windsor defeating Stratton Brom 7 to 6.
