Roy Oscarson Elected Vice President at Edison Brothers Stores

Roy Oscarson of Pleasant Grove Utah has been elected vice president of Edison Brothers Stores Inc of St. Louis Missouri. A former sales manager for Monsort Brothers, Oscarson joined Edison when the Baker shoe chain expanded to the Pacific Northwest. He rose through roles in Seattle Spokane Tacoma Los Angeles and San Francisco before becoming executive supervisor for the Pacific Northwest and, by 1948, sales manager at the St. Louis head office. Oscarson, 88, notes retailing offers a clear path to a secure lifetime and cites his ascent from humble beginnings to a top corporate role.

Examinations Announced For City Postmaster Job

The United Civil Service Commission announces an open competitive examination to fill the city postmaster vacancy. Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship, current delivery city residence for at least one year, and good physical condition. Three top eligibles will be certified to the Postmaster General for nomination to the President. Senate confirmation is final. Applications due February 15, 1949.

Lindon Roads Report Snowcasts Strain Town Board

Lindon Town Board reports severe snow and cold crippling narrow lanes and dead ends, aiming to keep roads open for school, mail, and milk delivery while asking residents for patience as graders struggle on hard to reach streets. Mr and Mrs Moyle hosted Elder Henry Moyle and President and Mrs Murrill N Warnick after the 7 live meeting and evening meal.

Scouts Remove Snow From Mutual Dell

Scouters and scouts from several groups battled heavy snow to reach Mutual Dell. They reported five feet of snow near the main building and about 42 inches on cabins. With snowshoes, Ray Pulley, Charles Christian sen, Wayne Holman H. S. Walker Tom Walker and TJ scouts from American Fork reached the Dell and removed the snow, warning that more could cause damage. The effort earned thanks from area users of the recreation site.

Deer Feeding Drive For Winter Trees And Help

A local wildlife federation urges residents to place Christmas trees on street edges Saturday. George J. Smith, president, notes deer will feed on saved trees to supplement alfalfa hay, with high school agriculture boys collecting and delivering to deer feeding grounds. Appreciation for City Help at Central School Skating Rink

Principal R S Merrill and Central School staff thank Mayor Hoyt Shields and the city council for their cooperation in snow removal around the ice skating rink. Pupils endured a hard winter with a thawing pond, but city equipment assistance was greatly appreciated.

The Central School Parent-Teacher Association will meet in the school auditorium Monday January 31 at 7 30 pm with President Rose Pulley in charge. The event features a library report by Nita Nelson safety talk by Calvin Walker a school orchestra and choir performance and open discussions of school problems and needs. All parents invited. GROVE WARD REUNION TUESDAY NIGHT Next Tuesday February the Grove ward holds a reunion with a program refreshments and dancing all ward members over 12 invited and younger children cared for Tuesday afternoon at 3 30.

Final Tribute for Lena Christiansen in Pleasant Grove LDS service

Monday rites honored Mrs Lena Christiansen wife of Ole Christiansen who died at the American Fork hospital on February 20. Bishop Neils Fugal led the service at the Third Ward LDS chapel with prayers and speakers including Ben Adams and Dr G S Richards. Interment at Pleasant Grove city cemetery followed. Pallbearers were close relatives. Mrs Christiansen, born in Denmark in 1882, lived in Pleasant Grove most of life and taught in the Third Ward Relief Society for over 20 years. She leaves a husband, two sons Parley and Errol, a daughter Nurmi Sahn, three sisters and several grandchildren. A later safety program at Pleasant Grove High School featured Patrolman Melvin Grant urging caution on highways and warning against riding on cars and street danger.

Cadmus Club Hosts Partners at Evening Reading

Cadmus Club members and partners enjoyed a Monday evening at Effie and Alan Adama's home. Uriel Allred read an act of The Magnificant Yankee. Margene Page, Georgia Bullock, and others performed pieces while Margene Lacilly Hillman welcomed guests. Various members received pins and tokens, and a light reception followed.
