Stake Conference Next Saturday and Sunday Held

Timpanogos Stake Quarterly Conference is set for Saturday evening at 6 40 PM and Sunday with general authorities Levi Edgar Young and Roscoe Eardley attending. The program includes Welfare and Priesthood leadership meetings, with sessions at Third Ward and Tabernacle venues and attendance by stake presidency, ward leaders, mothers and daughters, and all priesthood members.

Obituary of Selina M. Marrott 1859 193? in Provo Area

Mrs Selina M Marrott 85 widow of Arthur Marrott died at her daughter Mrs Harriet Backus home Monday from causes incident to age. Born November 24 1859 in Provo she married November 25 1880 in Salt Lake Endowment House. Survived by 9 of 12 children 59 grandchildren 74 great grandchildren and two sisters. Active L D S member and Relief Society teacher. Funeral Friday at 2 pm Windsor Ward Chapel. Burial Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Burial arrangements noted.

Ezra F Walker observes his 86th birthday at his Pleasant Grove home on January 25. Born January 25, 1850, he remains active in church and recalls local history, the fort wall, stagecoach stops at Mayhew House, and regional trails. Neighbors and friends wish him well.

Manila Ward Banquet Planned for Wednesday Night

Manila Ward schedules its annual banquet on a Wednesday in January. A. P. Wartick, chairman, says the event begins at 7 30 with a short program in the ward chapel led by Area Adams, followed by a banquet in the recreation hall. Committee details include A. P. Warnick as general chairman, D. Kleinman as banquet chair, Walter Hall on tables and seating, Thelma Freeman on decorating, Eldron Pack on tickets, and Keith Warnick on the dance.

Mrs Anna Johnson Celebrates 85th Birthday At Home

Mrs Anna Johnson marked her 85th birthday at her home with nearby friends on a quiet Thursday. She keeps active by doing housework tending a garden and shopping, often walking to town and visiting friends across several blocks.

Birthday celebration for Robert Mitchell in Pleasant Grove

An outstanding social event marked the 75th birthday of Robert Mitchell held at the Second Ward Amusement Hall on Wednesday evening January 24. The program featured prayers, songs, readings, and instrumental numbers followed by dancing with Carters Orchestra. Attendees came from Pleasant Grove and nearby Utah towns including Payson Provo Spanish Fork Birdseye East Lake City and Idaho Falls. Mitchell, born in Payson, has lived in Pleasant Grove for nearly forty years and is active in the LDS Church. His wife Ethel Jeppeon, whom he married January 4, 1901, survives with four daughters: Mrs Fern Ficks, Mrs Mary Lee, Mrs Reva Hadfield, and Mrs Mary Smith.

Meeting Saturday To Organize Legion Auxiliary Unit

A Pleasant Grove gathering is set for Saturday at 3 PM at the home of Mr and Mrs LY Clark to discuss forming a local American Legion Auxiliary unit. District President Hazel Hughes of Spanish Fork will outline steps for organization and all wives sisters mothers and daughters of American Legion members are eligible to join.

Winters wounded again in Europe in Belgium service

Private Norman Winters, son of Mr and Mrs A R Winters, has been wounded in action in Belgium and is in a U S Army hospital in England. He previously received a Purple Heart for wounds on August 22 1944, returned to active duty October 1944. A Pleasant Grove High School 1943 graduate, he worked for Utah Power and Light Co before enlisting in October. He trained at Champ Roberts California and has an overseas assignment in Maryland and Shelby Mississippi.

Seven New Members Installed In Local Lions Club

Seven new members were added to the He Pleat Grove Lions Club at a Wednesday evening meeting at the First Ward Amusement Hall. The event, led by President Samuel Hilton and program chair A B Gibson with John Dutler, drew over seventy attendees for a banquet and address by Stanley J L Stephenson of the Utah Manufacturers Association. New inductees included Mayor Duane Harper, Vilace Radmall, Harold Kleinon, Harold Woolston, George Paul, Gerald Belliston, and Christopher Christensen, boosting local Lions membership to over forty. A BYU girls trio from Nephi performed musical numbers, and Vera Matthews directed the banquet service at the Tamcheonette Cafe.

Home Nursing Courses Offered by Local Red Cross Chapter

Pleasant Grove chapter of the American Red Cross offers a Home Nursing course at rooms above Utah Power and Light. Classes meet Mondays at 7 30 PM. A First Aid course is also conducted weekly on Wednesdays at 7 30 PM. Attendees are invited to join to better prepare for minor illnesses and accidents.

Manila Ward Leads Stake Hoop Tournament Night

The Manila Ward team took the lead in a season stake hoop tournament as crowds watched close battles among Manila Second Ward and Lindon teams. Key players Byron Carter and Garth Walker share top scoring with 16 and 24 points respectively, as Manila, Lindon, Windsor, and Third Ward competed in a lively slate. The event featured a wedding notice for Kathryn Lindstrom and Russell L Nye and included posteve festivities and a table of standings with several local residents in attendance.
