The Pleasant Grove Parent Teachers Association praises its award worthy project feeding over 400 students a balanced noon meal daily. Budgeting and wartime price limits keep costs around ten cents per lunch. Officials thank supporters and invite patrons to visit, offer ideas for the future.

Edna Gillman Joins Women's Army Auxiliary Corps

Miss Edna Gillman, secretary at Pleasant Grove High, sworn into the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps at a ceremony broadcast by KDYL Salt Lake City. She plans to enter service in about two weeks, awaiting orders on camp and date. Her Salt Lake City training at L D S Business College and seven years as a school secretary bolster her service potential. Gillman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Vern Gillman, is a Pleasant Grove High School alumna and former L D S missionary in Florida.

Future Farmers Receive Distinction for Achievement

Jos Day and Mark Bezzant emerge as promising Future Farmers candidates for the American Farmer degree in the P. F. A. organization. Mark already holds the state farmer title, with criteria including leadership, academics, cooperative work, and farming investments. The Central school enjoys a revived skating rink and amplified music while teachers and students relish the brief skating period. Deputy Sheriff Harald Hanson, newly appointed, is hospitalized in Utah Valley after major surgery.

Isaac J Wadley died at his home near the city on Wednesday morning after a brief illness. He was born July 19 1871 in Pinchville Washington County and spent most of his life mining in the Western states. He married Tarsotta West on September 9 1900 in the Manti Temple and is survived by two sons, six daughters, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several siblings. Funeral Friday at 2 PM with burial to follow in Pleasant Grove. he was familiarly known as Uncle Ike.

Chamber of Commerce Carnival Set for February 6

The Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce will host an athletic carnival on Saturday February 6 featuring boxing track as well as basketball and a dance. The annual Membership Banquet is slated for February 20 at the new First Ward Amusement Hall. Floyd Bachus, a radio operator second class in the U S Navy, left for San Francisco after a visit with family. his ship was twelve hours from Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941 and he could share many stories upon return.

Private Paxman Visits Provo Friends Before Return

Private Howard Paxman former assistant cashier at Bank of Pleasant Grove visited with his parents in Provo and relatives this week during a furlough. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Paxman and recently served in the Machine Records Unit with headquarters in Chicago after basic training at Camp Robbins, Oklahoma and Camp Washington. Tay White of the US Navy also visited his sister and brother in law, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Luke, noting White is the son of Dudley and former city residents, having seen active service in the Pacific.

Fred Atwood Visits Pleasant Grove On Two Week Furlough

Technical Sergeant Fred Atwood arrived Tuesday to spend a two week furlough with his mother Mrs. Margaret Atwood and family in Pleasant Grove. He left almost two years ago with the Utah National Guard unit and on his way home from Tennessee stopped at a Georgia army camp to visit his brother Dale whom he had not seen in fifteen months.

Marines Visit Relatives In Pleasant Grove Area

Corporal Joseph K. Allen of the US Marines is on an 80 day furlough visiting his father Thos Allen and other relatives in Pleasant Grove. He has seen action in the Pacific including the Hawaiian Islands, New Hebrides, and Guadalcanal. Also mentioned are staff sergeant Virgil Cook, Mrs Phyllis Cook, Private First Class Robert State, and Nurline Vel Clark with military postings in the South.

Boyd Fugal Enters Training at Saint Mary's College

Boyd Fugal son of Mr and Mrs Neils Fugal of the third ward leaves for California to enter Saint Marys College as a Naval Aviation Cadet. He enlisted in the air corps on August 6 and completed basic preflight training at Carbon Junior College. He is accompanied by his parents sister Joyce brother Grant and Miss Venace Jacob to Salt Lake City.

Scrap iron drive underway in Pleasant Grove and stake conference notes

Beginning January 29 and every other Friday, the City Truck will collect scrap iron in Pleasant Grove. Do not place tubs or car bodies. place items by the road for easy pickup. The effort aims to boost the local junk drive as Pleasant Grove lags behind. In Timpanogos Stake news, the YS MIA Stake Board was reorganized with Estelle Fenton named president and Lecre Told and Reva West as counselors, while other officers retained. The Stake Conference drew large attendance with multiple sessions and musical numbers led by BYU performers.

First Ward Relief Society to Present Electrical Care Lecture

Fire at Guy Hardman Home Causes Light Damage

Local fire department responded to a blaze at the Guy Hardman home on Monday. Firefighters contained the fire to the exterior and the total damage was estimated at five dollars.
