Golden K. Driggs to Speak at C of C Banquet

Golden K. Driggs Associate Director of Development at BYU will speak at the Chamber of Commerce Banquet Saturday at Pleasant Grove School starting 7 p.m. The event, directed by David Faux, will honor a Lifetime member and announce seven new directors. Local entertainment by Barbershippers. Banquet cost is 2.50 per plate.

Timpanogos Stake Conference Hears Elder Marvin J Ashton

The Timpanogos Stake Quarterly conference opened with Elder Marvin J Ashton presiding and Stake President David C Harvey leading. Speeches urged sustaining leaders, family unity, effective teaching, neighborly friendship, and setting personal goals. The Manila Ward Choir performed, and music and prayers accompanied sessions led by multiple stake leaders.

American Fork Receives State Lease for Golf Course Project

American Fork City Council authorized a lease with the State of Utah for property used in the proposed 18 hole Tri-City Golf Course. Councilman Malcolm H. Beck presented the final lease to Mayor Neal Savage and the council. Formal acceptance will occur in ceremonies conducted by Governor Calvin L. Rampton.

City Council Holds Session Monday

City council met last Monday with Mayor Jack E. Cook presiding. Present were Bill Wood, Keith Fuller of Prudential Federal Savings & Loan, Kay Robinson, Aspen Engineering reps Clyde Naylor and Bing Christensen, and others. They discussed Grave Aire subdivision boundary issues, with proposed reducing new lots and issuing quit claim deeds to restore original footage. The meeting approved a city contribution to the Pleasant Grove Senior Citizens party and backed efforts to attract industry. Mayor Cook noted Golf Course plans and Outdoor Recreation approval were pending.

Voters Approve Bond Election in Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove voters narrowly approve water and sewer improvement bonds with about 15 percent turnout. Of 372 valid ballots, 318 support water bonds and 300 support sewer bonds, while 54 and 70 vote against respectively, from districts 2 5 9 and 3 4 7 8.

George A. Jedenoff spoke to 200 attendees at the fifth annual UVIDA installation banquet in the BYU Skyroom about Utah’s need to become economically self reliant and competitive in world trade. He cited Utah’s decline in manufacturing share and per capita income relative to the national average from 1960 to 1970.
