The Griffin Bakery on First South Pleasant Grove reopened Tuesday January 14 after major remodeling. Owners Mr and Mrs Roy Griffin lowered the entire building about five feet to create a new look and atmosphere for customers.
The Ugly Princess play will be presented at Pleasant Grove High School on Friday January 17 at 3 15 under BYU Theatrical Repertoire. Proceeds benefit a local Elysium Club community project.
A long personal reminiscence marks the author turning eighty, recalling a one pound birth with midwife Sophie Culmer, pioneer Mormon upbringing, encouragement from teachers and a devoted mother. He notes decades as a teacher and writer for Battle Creek Breeze and Review, praising community support from Lela R. and others as he looks back with gratitude and humor.
Ed Kresser was elected president for the coming year of the Roughout Riding Club. Stan Jorgensen as vice president and Mary Ellen Evans as secretary join him, with Bob Adamson as captain and Oral Fraughton as co captain.Lieutenants include Jay Richins Val Marshall Walt Norman and Bob Kirkham. Donna Norman serves as arena secretary Lynn Adamson directs activities and Jeanne Adamson oversees the public sections.
J. Reed Peterson of Pleasant Grove was re elected to a three year term on the Producers Marketing Livestock Association board of directors at a Salt Lake City meeting held Friday January 3. This marks his fourth consecutive term.
The Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce mailed ballots for seven new directors to paid members. The annual banquet Friday January 31 will announce the new directors and honor a Lifetime member. Tickets are $2.50 and available at local businesses.
Calvin Walker honored for 50 years of service to Scouting at Quarterly Conference. President Boyd L. Fugal presented a medal and letter from National Council signed by Chief Scout Executive Alden G. Barber. Walker’s record spans Eagle Scout to Silver Beaver with leadership roles and five sons all Eagles.
The Pleasant Grove Junior Miss Pageant grows to 14 entrants with five new seniors. Wayne Jorgensen chairs the Jaycee event set for Saturday January 18 at Pleasant Grove High School auditorium at 7 30 p m Tickets are sold by contestants and at the door. Kathleen Simmons daughter of Ted and Joyce Simmons is 5 ft 4 inches with brown hair and brown eyes.
Dr. Jay F. Harmer was sustained as Second Counselor in the Second Ward Bishopric last Sunday night. Lyle Vern Hacker was sustained as First Counselor to fill the vacancy from William D. Mair’s move to Tooele.
Deputy District Governor James Nelson of American Fork addressed local Lions and helped install Parley Varney as a new member. The evening included Samoan entertainment with Carma Bastian and Mane Card in Samoan costumes, dancing with Robert Hansen. The annual mid winter banquet at Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City was rescheduled for Jan 25 at 7:30 pm, replacing the second January meeting.
The Lindon Lions Club begins a service project Friday January 17 selling brooms to aid the Salt Lake City blind center. Ray Green chairs the event with Lions assisting Lindon door to door. President Harold Erickson calls for strong Lindon citizen support and mentions new Whisk type and janitor brooms plus rubber mats.
