Water and Sewer Bond Election in Pleasant Grove

Citizens vote Tuesday January 19 on 375000 water and 20000 sewer general obligation bonds to fund Battle Creek and Monson system interconnections, pipe upgrades, and Brimley well use. City officials urge turnout, noting risks of water loss and inadequate lines, with polling at high school for east residents and city hall for west residents.

Typing Classes Aid Utah County March of Dimes Drive

Pleas ant Grove Lehi American Fork and Orem high schools and Utah Technical College at Provo participated in a county wide letter writing effort for the March of Dimes. Pleasant Grove students wrote about 1200 letters to businesses, boosting the campaign by an estimated 2000 to 3000 dollars.

Coordinating Committee Formed for Utah County Economic Education

A Coordinating Committee for economic education in Utah County schools was organized by Alpine Nebo and Provo districts with support from BYU and the Utah Council on Economic Education. Officers are Kay Williams chair and Gareth Seastrand vice chair. The first project will offer economics courses for teachers starting Feb 4 1971 at Dixon Junior High with BYU instructors.

Legion Essay Contest Now On in Pleasant Grove

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 70 sponsors an annual February essay contest on Americanism for Pleasant Grove junior and senior high students. Topic for 1971 is Freedom A Privilege or a Burden with 300 to 500 words. Students must be original typed double spaced, submit by February 1 to English teachers, include name address and grade on back, and separate prizes awarded in junior and senior groups. Contact Guy Hillman at the high school or Mrs Talmage Thomson, contest chairman, or any English instructor for details.

Pleasant Grove Stake Conference Set for January Weekend

The Pleasant Grove Stake holds its first quarterly conference Saturday and Sunday January 16 and 17 at the Stake House. Stake President Leon Walker expects 50 percent or more of the Church in Zion to attend. A 5 p.m. Saturday leadership meeting precedes the sessions. Attendees include Stake Presidency, High Council, Executive Clerk, Bishoprics, ward clerks, Melchizedek Priesthood leaders, Unit and Group Leaders, and secretaries.

Building Permit Totals Near One Million for Grove City

Grove City issued building permits totaling just under one million dollars in a monthly report by building inspector Mapens. The year to date shows 953 520 for all construction including residential, commercial, and repairs. Monthly leaders were April June and November with December following closely. The report lists monthly figures from January to December and notes completion of the stake meeting theme Family Home Evening is for Everyone.

Timpanogos Stake Conference This Weekend

Elder Marvin J. Ashton of the Council of Twelve will speak at the Timpanogos Stake Conference in Pleasant Grove on January 16 and 17. Sessions include a 5 p.m. Saturday gathering and a 10 a.m. Sunday general session, with all visitors welcome.

Driving Drinking Formula From Safety Council

The National Safety Council recommends waiting one hour per average drink before driving. Utah Safety Council Vice President Leo H. Barlow says the rule helps drivers reach home safely after parties. He urges drivers not to drink before driving and limits one beer or highball per hour if they do.

Women Worry Clinic Registration Set for Friday Start

Registration opens Friday at 9 30 a m at Lehi Stake House for a women’s worry clinic run by the Utah County Mental Health Association and local PTA groups. Drs and instructors cover marriage, mothers with children, and teen issues with a 1 fee and 35 cent lunch.
