Wasatch Forest Livestock Use Declares 1944 Report

The Wasatch National Forest report shows 72 000 head grazed last year with 8 200 cattle and horses and 63 400 sheep on forest lands during May to October. Private land grazing adds 637 cattle and 9 420 sheep. Cattle and horse grazing lasted 2 to 5 months, averaging 114 days, while sheep averaged 70 days. Losses totaled 124 cattle and 670 sheep mainly to predators and poisonous plants, with rustling suspected for missing cattle after fall roundups.

M Men Basketball League Sees Shifting Standings in Tight Race

In the Tithpanogos Stake M Men league third round action, Third Ward upset undefeated Second Ward 43 121 to create a three way tie with Manila and 1st Ward atop the standings. The Bank of Pleasant Grove held its annual meeting on January 1 1946 electing twelve directors including L. Chipman J Covnivy Keith H Jacobs Lewis E Olpin and Swenson West and Junie A West. The 1944 annual report showed a good year with substantial gains and officers were re elected for 1945 J C Cobbley remained President Junius A West as Vice President and Cashier Calvin H Swenson as Assistant Cashier.

Cullimore Family Marks 56th Wedding Anniversary

In Lindon a large Cullimore family reunion honored Mr and Mrs William J Cullimore on their 56th anniversary. Ten of eleven children attended, with Lynn K in Hawaii. relatives from Provo Salt Lake City Garland and Bountiful joined. They stated 47 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, two sons in the armed forces, and a life on the Lindon farm highlighted by shared letters and a light lunch.

Milton Mathis Killed in Action in Belgium December 28

Milton Mathis husband of Gell Watley Mathis of Pleasant Grove and son of Borah Mathis of Alhambra California was killed in action in Belgium December 28 per War Department telegram received January 5. Born in Provo Utah he was educated there and married in 1942. Survived by wife mother and two sons from a previous marriage, plus several brothers and sisters in California Utah and Arabia.

Memorial services conducted Sunday for Sergeant Dale Atwood drew relatives and friends from many towns to the Tabernacle of Bargeant Male P Atwood. Funeral Service Held for Mrs Elizabeth T Giles

Funeral rites for Elizabeth Tomlinson Giles were held at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with Bishop C R Clark leading prayers and tributes. Born in 1863 in Knottingsley England, she emigrated to Utah, married James Giles in 1889, and lived in Pleasant Grove after his death in 1906. Survivors include a Salt Lake City sister and several nieces and nephews.

In 1944 Pleasant Grove added 42 new service connections as water works chief Joseph Dickerson reports. A 225000 gallon storage tank will start March 1 and be ready for summer. City council enacts a new water rate starting April 1 with a 750 dollar minimum for 75000 gallons and a lower base to conserve supply while charging higher use.

Holstein shipment boosts local dairies from Idaho

E. J. Swensen and Keith Jacobs shipped forty-two pure bred Holsteins into the district last week. The herd from Blackfoot, Idaho includes 18 cows, 12 yearling heifers, 12 calves, and 2 bulls, with milking cows averaging 482 pounds butterfat per year. The move strengthens existing dairy herds and the community praises the effort.
