An Appeal For More Scrap Drive Urges Citizens

An appeal asks every citizen to set out scrap like wash tubs and old buckets in piles by Friday January 16 for city collection. Pleasant Grove trails in the drive, risking material for war efforts. The Mayor and Kemp, Salvage Committee chair, urge strong participation to supply needed metal and supply lines.

Fire Chief Reports to Mayor and Council 1912

Fire Chief J. Kemp presents the 1912 Fire Department report to Treasant Grove city officials. Fourteen fire calls occurred: five in the city, four in the county, one in Landom, one in Orem. City losses ran to about $16, per capita loss near 0.10. First aid responses reached four calls, plus one electrician case, one knee injury, one drowning, and one scarlet fever case. A donated resuscitator, funded by local chamber and subscriptions, enhances department equipment.

Utah County Plans Tin Drive

Utah County urges residents to salvage tin cans in a county wide campaign. Bulletins will go to mayors salvage committee chairs and workers from Provo by Clayton Jenkins. Cans will be shipped to Salt Lake City to be made into steel balls for Utah Copper company. Plans for Provo drive set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the chamber of commerce offices. A separate copper salvage drive is planned for January 11 to 16.

Native of Pleasant Grove Dies in Salt Lake City

Neils H Heiselt aged 81 died at his Salt Lake City home on December 15 born in Pleasant Grove to Neils and Kerstine Heiselt. He helped settle the San Luis Valley in Colorado as a young man then lived in American Fork before moving to Salt Lake City after his wife's death twelve years prior. Miss Afton Williams of Oasis Minh visited with Miss Ros Peterson during the holidays.

Curfew Law Enforced in Pleasant Grove

City officials in Pleasant Grove implement a curfew for youths under fourteen, requiring them off streets by 10 PM unless with a guardian. The council organized a short citywide siren blast at 10 PM to signal the start of enforcement.

Milk Supply Depends On Small Farm Herds

H Rich dairy specialist from Utah State Agricultural College Extension Service notes that over 60 percent of US cows milked are in herds of 10 or fewer owned by 90 percent of dairy farmers. Manage these small herds better to boost output. many run as a side line. USDA data show milking three times daily can raise production by 10 to 25 percent with adequate grain. feed increases as well.

Warnick Family Holds Annual Reunion at Manis Ward Hall

On Friday January 1 the Warnick family gathered at the Manis Ward recreation hall for their annual reunion. Forty nine relatives enjoyed a hot dinner followed by a varied program including music, piano solos, and a humorous reading. Family branches shared year in review messages and letters from relatives out of state were read. William Warnick family members in military and church service were noted.
