Geneva Opens 1947 With Rosy Outlook

Geneva Utah operates a United States Steel plant with six months of 1947 production in sight. M Men Basketball League Dominates Pleasant Grove Notes

A report from Pleasant Grove shows 55 building permits issued totaling 272 600 with 42 new residences and several commercial projects. In local sports, the M Men league in Timpanogos Stakes went into its third game at the high school gym with Lindon Manila Second ward and Third ward drawing byes and uncertain scores.

Prizes Awarded in Jaycere Christmas Contest

Prizes were awarded for the Jaycee Christmas Lighting contest in Grove City. First prize went to Harl A. Berk for an elaborate display, second to Ray Beers, third to Orville Bullock, with cash prizes of 10 5 and 3 dollars. Honorable mentions included B.E. Bradley and others. prizes to be mailed soon. Cadmus Club Holds New Years Dance

Cadmus Club members and guests danced the old year out and new year in at their annual party in the First Ward Recreational Hall. Calvin Sywenall presented gifts as Lycan Johnson portrayed Father Time, while the hall featured green and blue decorations, electric silver candies, and a silver blue table set for the guests.

Former Pleasant Grove Resident Dies In Salt Lake

Phillip Kopp 82 died January at 4 p m in a Salt Lake hospital. Born December 26 1864 in Germany he married Caroline Miller in 1886 and converted to the LDS church before immigrating to America in 1914. Surviving are a son Fred Kopp of Oceanside California two daughters Mrs Freda Beck of Idaho and Mrs Augusta Walters of Salt Lake City three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 p m with Bishop Warrick in charge at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. calling hours at Glenn Mortuary until 2 p m Monday. casket open at Manila Ward Chapel 1 1/2 hours prior. Pleasant Grove City adopts a 1947 budget ordinance totaling 45 594 60 an increase of 10 396 60 from 1946 due to higher operating costs. A New Year supper gathering at the Linden and Windsor site brought together many couples including Mr. and Mrs Carl Crawford and Mr. and Mrs Roy Nichols. Prizes awarded featured Mrs Thora Crawford as first prize winner and Reed Gillman as consolation recipient. A watch party followed at the home of Mr. and Mrs Reed Gillman with Rosa Baxter and Roy Nichols again taking top prizes.

Mrs Alma Kirk and Daughter Injured in California Crash

Mrs. Alma Kirk and her daughter Mrs Kathryn Woolf, both of this city, were injured in a Christmas Eve automobile accident in Long Beach California. They were riding with Mrs Woolf s husband when a car rammed through a red light, tossing them from the vehicle. They suffered cuts and bruises but are recovering.
