Pleasant Grove FFA officers finalize plans for the annual banquet to be held Thursday evening at Pleasant Grove High School. Activities start at 6 p.m. with members and guests invited to attend.
Pleasant Grove prepares for a residential canvass led by Heart Sunday chairman Mrs. Jay Johnson. Ninety volunteers will call on homes Sunday to share heart health tips and collect Heart Fund contributions with mail-in envelopes for those not at home.
Pleasant Grove City Council met in the city hall for the second February 1968 regular meeting with Mayor Paul T. Fordham presiding and most members present. Bids for street sweeping were discussed, Strawberry Days plans were approved, youth programs and a Youth Division Council were endorsed, and four applicants for the 1968 Recreation Director were interviewed with no decision.
A letter recalls 1960s Georgia protests by 40 Black residents opposing so called intolerable school conditions. Writers contrast past shortages of substitutes, lunches, and transport with today noting pod teaching and praising teachers like John Coombs and Luella Ellsworth for their efforts.
Pfc Earnest W. Fowlke 20 of Lindon Utah died February 19 in a Vietnam hospital from combat wounds. He was born October 1947 in American Fork, married Linda Christiansen, and was survived by his wife, daughter Kimberley Louise, parents D. H. and Pearl Jolley Fowlke, a brother Denley, a sister Janice, and two sisters in law. Funeral arrangements pending War Department notice.
PGHS stage crew faces tough construction for The Diary of Anne Frank with after school work. Director David Larsen cites a challenging set and notes postponement to March 7 and 8 in the high school auditorium.
The Timpanogos Stake sets three youth games at Pleasant Grove High School this Saturday with Explorers at 6 pm Ensigns at 7 pm and Old-Timers at 8 pm followed by the Seniors feature at 9 pm Stake Athletic director Jack Taylor lists North All-Stars and South All-Stars rosters including Nielsen Jense Johnson and Atkinson Christensen Mills Richins and others for the senior men teams with voting players.
The Kiwanis Club held a Patriotism Oration titled America Calls delivered by Carolyn Williams of BYU, joined by guests Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warnick. The night included praise for local figures, a Paul Harvey recording, and lists of Old-Timers and All-Stars across North and South regions with numerous coaches and players named.
Pleasant Grove Lions sponsor miniature white cane sale to support White Cane Day activities. March 2 set for special events inviting donations to help the blind and sight conservation efforts.
