Police report details theft at 70 North 100 West with a diamond ring and wedding bands valued at 750. Three juveniles arrested for burglary. other cases include 11 traffic contacts, 45 car checks, 20 motorists aided, 8 warrants served, 11 agency assists, 6 fights broken up, 3 burglar alarms, 5 doors found open after hours, 9 accidents, and total damage 4795 dollars.
Governor Rampton proclaims Utah Vocational Week from February 13 to 19 to align with National Vocational Week. Attendees include Vera Conder, Walter Ulrich, Lynn Jensen, Mark Nichols, and Jack Higbee, highlighting education and training for the World of Work with a statewide observance culminating February 19 with UVA events.
Heart Sunday will be February 27 as Utah Heart Association calls on the public to join the battle against heart attack stroke high blood pressure and related diseases. Local chairman Mrs. Herb Gilbert Sr. urges support as fund workers plan to visit most area homes for contributions.
The Pleasant Grove city council meeting scheduled for Monday is moved to Tuesday February 22 at 7 30 p m due to George Washington's birthday observance. The session remains at the same location and time.
The 75th anniversary of Utah’s first forest in the Uinta range will be marked February 22 as Founder's Day. Gov. Calvin Rampton will issue a proclamation establishing the date for the Uinta National Forest. Leaders from Intermountain states and various sectors will participate in the commemorative observance.
The Pleasant Grove Vikings beat Lehi 62 61 in a dramatic finish to secure a spot in the AA tournament to be held March 1 2 3 and 4. Earlier they lost to Springville 70 63 but remain 3 1 against AA schools in region TV. Wayne Allred sank the final free throw with 6 seconds left to seal the win.
Carolyn Carter daughter of Gloria W Barber and Byron H Carter was elected to represent the State Future Homemakers of America as State Vice President at the FHA Convention held last Friday at Hotel Utah and the Salt Palace. Thirty nine PGHS girls attended the convention and Carter plus FHA advisor Mrs Delores Bradshaw will be eligible to attend the National FHA Convention at the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel July 10 to 13.
Pleasant Grove man Leslie E. Rees, 60, sustained head lacerations, back and shoulder injuries in a two car collision at 3700 N University Ave in Provo Monday. His condition improved from poor to satisfactory at Utah Valley Hospital. The other driver was David Chaney, 21, of Orem, with passenger Paul Cook, 18, of Provo, who were not hurt.
The Kiwanis breakfast at the Gal eree in American Folk featured Pleasant Grove Police Chief Michael Ferre. Ferre discussed rising youth drug use and crime, urging parent involvement and home evening programs to curb delinquency. Howard Smith from Pleasant Grove High School attended as a Sterling Scholar guest.
Lindon City Council discussed the drug problem in the area and urged support for police efforts. A curfew for minors under 16 was approved to run from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. on sidewalks and public places. Police activity for January reported $875 in fines. Mountain Bell representatives outlined toll free dial phone project plans for Pleasant Grove and Oren exchanges.
The Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce board meeting at Longhorn Cafe on Feb 15 elected officers. President Russell S. Schow and Vice President Grant Atwood were reelected with Douglas Johnson reappointed as secretary and treasurer.
An adult driver education course will begin February 24 at 7 p.m. in Orem High School room 17. The class meets twice weekly with twelve students minimum and a $30 registration fee. It covers 18 hours classroom, 6 hours observation, and 6 hours behind the wheel.
A Utah County man was convicted on five counts of unlawful possession of big game parts by Judge Hugh Vern Wentz in Orem City Court. Investigators linked four elk to a hill site and later found fresh elk parts at Morgan Forbush’s home aided by a metal detector and public tips.
Army specialist Karl R. Cook 20, son of Mrs. Alberta Cook of Pleasant Grove, has been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam. He serves as an infantryman in Company D, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry near Bien Hoa. He joined in March 1971 after basic training at Fort Ord. Last stationed at Fort Carson, his wife Lou Ann lives at Pleasant Grove.
