Pleasant Grove Old Folks Day Celebrated With Toasts and Talent
The annual Old Folks Day in Pleasant Grove drew about 250 attendees on Tuesday February 12. Guests enjoyed a noon assembly with prayers and songs, a short program led by William Williamson and Thomas Gleason, clarinet solos by Alfred Dexter, and a dinner with toasts by James Thorne. A later show at the Alhambra theater capped the event with a free picture show courtesy of Harold Tootton.

Lindon ward to hold final Reunion and Old Folks Day on Friday February 22. Members over 16 will meet at the ward chapel at 11 am for a short program. Dinner follows at Lindon Hall at noon with an afternoon and evening of entertainment. Three one act plays titled Pink and Patches, teapot and the Rocks, and Stoves will be performed. Committee includes Benjamin as chairman and several ward members.

Mrs Lora Blackhurst Died in Salt Lake City
Mrs Thora Harrison Blackhurst 56 wife of the late Robert Blackhurst died of a heart attack near Fourth South and Main Street in Salt Lake City while traveling with her daughter Mrs Florence Gilbert. Born December 30 1878 in Pleasant Grove she had lived here until moving nine years ago. Survived by daughters Florence Gilbert Helen Blackhurst and son Robert Blackhurst. Funeral today at 12 30 p m Belvedere L D S ward chapel. Interment Salt Lake City cemetery.

Ward Third Ward Opens New Tennis Court With Program
The Third Ward held the formal opening of a new standard size tennis court behind the ward chapel on Saturday at 3 p m. A program was arranged by the M I A under Joseph S Walker and Mrs J M Macfarlane. The initial game featured J H Walker and M S Christiansen who led the building committee. The project cost about 490 dollars with 240 dollars for materials and 250 dollars for labor. Contributions ranged from 50 cents to 50 dollars.

Benjamin West 68 a miner and farmer of this city died Thursday morning February 7 at his home after a six week illness. He was the son of David and Amelia Hooley West and is survived by his widow Berley Ellis West and children Sheriram West Springville Mrs Belva Duke Price Mia Florence Devey Salt Lake City five grandchildren and siblings William Nathaniel West Pleasant Grove Amasa West Salt Lake City and Mrs Matilda Brown Pleasant Grove. Funeral services were held at the Timpanogos Stake tabernacle Sunday at 12 30 with Bishop C A Garnett conducting. A vocal duet Sometime Somewhere was sung by Mr and Mrs William Hismore of American Folk. Invocation by Junius A West. Duet Day Follows Night by May R Walker and son Jesse Walker. Speakers included David Gourley Donna Olpin Arnold West of Salt Lake City Stephen L Chipman of American Folk with closing remarks by Bishop Garnett. Other numbers included A Pilgrim sung by Elroy West and a duet by Jennie Halliday and Roy Fage. Benediction by A P Warnick. Interment in Pleasant Grove cemetery where the grave was dedicated by Joseph Olpin. Large attendance filled the tabernacle with floral offerings.

Scout Training Course Given in Timpanogos District
A six week training course continues at the high school every Wednesday evening under Merrill Christofferson scout commissioner. The class includes district committee troop committee men scout masters assistants and patrol leaders.
Farm Loan Group Re Elect Wadley President
The Pleasant Grove National Farm Loan Association held its annual meeting at Pleasant Grove High School. R D Wadley was reelected president with Alexander Lowe as vice president and C L Warnick as secretary treasurer. The group reported 68 new loans in 1934 totaling 189700, bringing total loans to 207 in force at 583300. The Federal Land Bank offered an emergency plan allowing interest only payments during stress periods.
