First Ward Wins Basketball Stake Honors
A large crowd watched the Grove ward and First ward clash for the stake championship at a Timpanogos stake on Monday evening. Garth Walker and Darrell Harper led scoring with 14 points each as First ward edged ahead late. Awards for First place Sportsmanship and Activity were given. VFW medals honored ten players including Walker Gillman Hilton Harper Swenson Harvey Adamson Christianson Peay and Qstergard. The Grove ward meets Tunnerup for a Division Six bid at Pleasant Grove High School on February 4 and the Division Six Tournament runs February 8 to 11 at Lincoln High School.

Truck Fire Nearly Fatal for Texas Truck Driver
J W Smith 28 of Abilene Texas suffered severe burns to head arms and legs when a gasoline heater exploded inside the refrigerated trailer of his potato truck. He was rescued by Lowe Howard and Glen Saul near Pleasant Grove and hospitalized in American Fork. The truck owned by J B Nofle of Abilene was southbound with a potato load sourced in Falls City.

Funeral Services Set For Lindon Infant Nancy Harris

North Fork Ski Way Opens in American Fork Canyon
Four American Fork citizens have opened the North Fork Ski Way in American Fork Canyon to serve Pleasant Grove American Fork Lehi and nearby communities. The 1000 ft tow uses a 1500 ft long rope with a 75 ft width. A snack bar shelter and instructors from American Park City Recreation Department will operate. Special buses run Saturdays from Lehi at 7 00 am American Fork at 9 30 and Pleasant Grove at 10 00 with Sunday service. Utah County Commissioner Burton H Adam says roads will stay open.
