A Blueprint for Action meeting for Utah Valley business and professional leaders is set for February 8 at 7:30 PM in Pleasant Grove City Hall. UVIDA members lead the event with Mayor Fordham welcoming. Roland Smith and Richard Stone outline community needs and plans.
Pleasant Grove Precinct Chairman Vernon Altman invites all residents to a regional Democratic State Platform Committee hearing at Provo High School at 7 30 p m on February 1. Chairmen and 16 subcommittees will listen to ideas from citizens of Utah Wasatch Juab and Millard Counties on future state and community goals.
Salt Lake City judge grants a preliminary injunction delaying proceedings for James Austin Innes of Ogden. The case questions whether a university or local draft board can determine if student deferments remain valid. A trial to decide authority is set but date not given.
A rain storm changing to snow broke the late January dry spell in Pleasant Grove during the seven day period ending 6 p.m. Monday January 29. Total precipitation was under a quarter inch with mild daytime temperatures and only a few frosty nights. Groundhog Day approaches as forecasts predict light rain or snow tapering by Thursday. Weekly stats show 0.20 inches of precipitation for the period and 0.54 inches since January 1.
Governor Calvin L. Rampton will be in Pleasant Grove Friday February 2 at 3 p m for a 15 minute city hall meeting with officials. He will then hold a 15 minute session from 3 15 to 3 30 for private citizens with special problems. Citizens may attend but should bring real issues.
The Pleasant Grove Public Library adds 19 new books funded by a $50 donation from the Cadmus Club. Librarian Drucilla Smith notes strong use of the library and thanks the donors as the city council was informed of the purchase. New titles include Uncle Tom's Cabin replacement and several children's and teen books.
Leonard Madsen will be the featured speaker at the Pleasant Grove Sportsmen Association meeting next Wednesday February 7 at 7 30 at city hall. He is noted for conservation work and is a Governor's Award recipient. A discussion on public land sales by the Bureau of Land Management will be held.
State Senator Ernest H. Dean was appointed to the National Legislative Conference’s 15 member State and Federal Affairs Committee. The panel represents the 50 state legislatures and works to align state and federal laws for national citizen interests.
Utah County Chapter American Red Cross offers a Mother and Baby Care class starting Feb 6 from 1 to 3 pm in the American Folk hospital classroom. The six lesson course runs Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks and is open to new mothers fathers and grandparents with no charge. enrollment at the first class.
Utah Power and Light Co. hosts an open house at its redecorated Pleasant Grove offices Friday February 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. Southern Division manager Newel Stephens says refreshments will be served and thanks Harvey and Don Smith for remodeling. Mayor Paul T. Fordham also attends.
The Silver Lake Flat Dam project in North Fork American Fork Canyon advances as the North Utah County Conservancy District signs with the FHA. A $241,045 FHA payment toward a $600,000 project is paired with Soil Conservation Service and local districts funding. Bids will be let when weather allows, with two to three years of construction ahead.
The mid winter gathering of the Utah Associated Garden Clubs took place January 27 at the Utah Garden Center in Salt Lake City. Dr. Everett L. Cooley and George Turtillot discussed the theme Enriching Our Heritage while Alice Simper outlined statewide club service. Pleasant Grove Garden Club earned third place for its 1967 yearbook with Veatrice Stewart Verland Saling Lucille P Hillman and Alice Simper among attendees.
Timpanogos Stake Beehive girls gatherers and guardians invite parents MIA officers and bishops to the Precious Gems of Life program. Two evenings Monday February 5 and Tuesday February 6 begin at 7 30 p.m. in the Cultural Hall at the Timpanogos Stake House.
Mr. and Mrs. Elvin R. Thorne celebrate fifty years of marriage with a Sunday open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at 308 South First East Pleasant Grove. Their three children and three grandchildren attend the event. the Thorne couple were married February 6, 1918 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
