The E. Thorne Grocery changes hands this week. Dean and Reed Smith assume operations and rename as Smith Brothers Grocery. Thorne, ten years owner and Alpine district school board member, plans move to the Pacific coast, selling his home to Blaine Swenson while the Smith brothers pledge to maintain high business standards and prompt service for the public.
The Plessing Grove high school Junior Prom drew one of the largest crowds Friday night and was hailed as an outstanding season highlight. Sheriff-elect John 5. Ryans of Lehi announced four new deputies for Utah County. Jed J. Mercer of American Fork Arthur Winters of Pleasant Grove Ed Clark of Spanish Fork and Lloyd Powell of Payson join the force. Reappointments include George Lo Charles Mitchell of Orem and W. T. Lewis of Provo. A court decision and further appointments are pending as the new duties begin January 3, 1939.
At the Tah County Conservation Committee annual conference in Provo on Tuesday, Reed Bird of Springville and Jonah M. Bush were reflected. New officers were elected and a secretary-treasurer will be named at the next meeting scheduled for January 3.

A Salt Lake City farewell banquet honored Vivian N. West, Wasatch national forest ranger of 28 years, marking retirement to take effect soon. West helped develop Timpanogos cave area, Alpine Loop, and granite flat trails, born in American Fork in 1884, with a long career starting in Humboldt forest.
Bishop Harold M. Wright announces tithing settlement will be held Saturday December 21. The Mormon L A will lead the program Sunday evening in the Third ward. The Pleasant Grove Lions Club will hold its regular meeting next Wednesday night at the Luncheonette.
