Benny Blazes It On By In Utah Little League Tilt

The Deseret News profile highlights 12 year old Benny Velasquez of the Moab Moose in Pleasant Grove Utah as he dominates in Little League. Benny struck out 18 of 26 batters he faced and hit a two run homer to win a game against the Spanish Fork Yankees earning an autographed baseball and a $5 gift certificate from ABBA. He is described as Mexican American and bilingual, with major league scouts likely watching his progress.

Stephen Frampton Appointed New Police Officer

Stephen L. Frampton, a four year auxiliary officer, becomes patrolman for Pleasant Grove Police Department succeeding Glen Newman who resigned July 31 1969. Frampton, born in Pleasant Grove, is a 1961 graduate of Pleasant Grove High School and former US Army Reserve member. He works as a salesman for Continental Baking Company and lives with wife Sharon Newman and their son at 800 North 600 East.

Destructive fire at J Arza Adams turkey ranch causes major losses

A Saturday blaze at J Arza Adams turkey ranch near Pleasant Grove was likely sparked by lightning. An impulse shed and multiple power tools vehicles and equipment burned or damaged. Losses could exceed fifty thousand dollars with insurance covering most. Firefighters contained the flames to prevent spread to other buildings.

W D Chapman to Be Honored on 80th Birthday

Welcome D. Chapman of Lindon is honored for his 80th birthday with a dinner at his daughter’s Lindon home. Born August 24, 1889 in St. Johns Arizona, he is a former Lindon mayor and church leader. He lost his wife Pearl last April after 60 years of marriage.

New Ordinances Passed Last Monday In Pleasant Grove

Douglas Spencer Earns U of U Engineering Honors

Douglas Albert Spencer, son of George A. and Vivian C. Spencer, earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering magna cum laude at the University of Utah on Saturday. He joins Tau Beta Pi Eta Kappa Nu and Phi Kappa Phi, and received a full tuition and NSF fellowship of $5,500 yearly for three years toward a Master’s and PhD at the University of Michigan. He and his wife Bette, a Utah chemistry graduate, have moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Alpine District to Welcome 17000 Students in 1969

Alpine District plans an August 26 opening for about 17,44 students, up 572 from 1968 69. New hires include 111 teachers and several administrators. Workshops for principals run August 18–20, with orientation August 21–22 at Orem Junior High and an all staff institute August 25 at Orem High.
