Grove Canning Co plans to open its tomato processing plant on Monday August 21. The site has undergone extensive renovations including packing improvements and upgraded facilities. The plant will operate continuously to handle contracted tomatoes and provide seasonal employment for local youths as operations begin.
Grove’s fastballers win a doubleheader at American and home to seize a share of first place tied with Cavemen. Tim Rich leads hitters, with Mercer, Young, and Christiansen contributing. Pleasant Grove next faces a Friday game.
Windsor Ward held a Tuesday August 15 reunion with 2 pm games by 4 H members and local men and women, a 6 pm Relief Society dinner serving 400 plates, followed by a grounds program including musical acts, dances, stunts, and a final hour of lawn dancing. Proceeds go to ward maintenance.
The Triple M 4 H Club of Manila met Saturday at Lee Harper's home. Kathryn Jesson won praise for an artistic flower arrangement. Girls brought vases of attractively arranged flowers. Refreshments followed. An August 23 meeting at H V Swenson's home will cover bed making with Adena Swenson and a collar cuffs demonstration by Miss Peterson. Ellen Agren from Utah County USA C of Logan spoke to seniors on cleaning and pressing men’s clothing.
Mrs. J. L. Harvey suffered a broken right hip after a Sunday stumble near Aspen Grove in Provo canyon during a dinner outing with Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCombe. She was taken to Pleasant Grove for medical care after a prior influenza illness left her weak and dizzy.
The R. F. C. committee announces a schedule change for its weekly distributing day. It will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at city hall, replacing Monday sessions. C. O. Newman W. W. Lim and J. L. Adams lead the effort.
Ninety unemployed men aged 16 and up registered Wednesday at city hall for work. C. O. Newman W. W. Lim and J. L. Adams supervised. Additional registration days will be announced later.
Belva Robbins wed Clayton Wootton of Midway with a Provo ceremony. A Robbins home shower hosted by Mrs. Harold Bullock and Mrs. Ed Lewis Jr. drew sixteen guests. The couple will reside in Carbon County. Also Lilian Swenson wed Wendell Swenson in Provo. Notes mention E H Steiner and son visiting Cedar City. A quip recalls O a Cobleys paying for baseball home runs. players collected $2.00 at a game.

County group prizes total 44 dollars for Group A, 32 for Group B, and 15 for Group C, with individual state awards of 14 dollars and a gold match for the top state club member. Exhibits must be in uniform jars labeled with county, member number, year, group, method, date, and product.
Citizens of Pleasant Grove warned to secure garages cellars and gas tanks after a wave of gasoline thefts. Reports describe vehicles emptied at multiple homes with same tire tracks tracing to Sundberg West and Christensen properties. Authorities urged reporting losses and contacting sheriff to deter further petty thefts.
Mr and Mrs I V Sundberg announce the engagement of their daughter Ellis to Owen Cullimore son of Mr and Mrs A L Cullimore of Lindon. They plan marriage at Salt Lake temple on August 21 with reception August 22 at the Third Ward chapel involving about two hundred guests. Ellis is a Pleasant Grove High School graduate and Henagers College alumna. Owen is a Pleasant Grove graduate, B A and MSc candidate. he did a mission for the L D S Church in Canada. After marriage they will reside in New York City where Owen will continue his studies.
