Norton Food Center Groundbreaking Set for Monday

The Norton family will break ground Monday at Third South and Main for a new Norton Food Center facility. Ron Norton said the project will finally happen after 17 years with the ground owned by the family. The 6 p.m. ceremony invites all to attend and bring a shovel to help.

District Ten Riding Clubs Set Annual Meet in Utah

District Ten Riding Clubs plan a two day event in American Fork and Pleasant Grove on August 13 and 14. The meet features team barrel races potato races ribbon pulls and roping events plus chariot and water races. A parade closes the proceedings with final competitions at Pleasant Grove rodeo grounds and the American Fork track.

Pleasant Grove Jr High Registration Dates and Fees

Pleasant Grove area Junior High registration for new students is set for August 16, 1976 with a 9 am to 3 pm window. Seventh graders may register earlier on August 7, paying a 2.50 Tower fee, 2.50 optional Activity Enrichment Fee, and 4.00 Student Insurance. Totals vary by insurance choice. Eighth and ninth grades have similar registration windows in mid May with fees including tower, activity, and insurance, yielding totals from 5.00 to 12.50 depending on insurance and grade.

Homecoming for Wesley Jenses Set for Sunday

Wesley and Lucille Jense have returned from an LDS mission in West Virginia. County urges rabies clinics across Utah County

Utah County Commissioners have urged rabies vaccination clinics in cooperation with the Utah Valley Veterinary Medical Association. The UVMA runs vaccination clinics with communities to help residents meet local dog and cat rabies ordinances. Owners of cats are asked to vaccinate promptly. a rabid bat risk is noted. A clinic is set for Saturday August 14 from 8 to 12 noon, contact local veterinarians.

Cards Win Strawberry League Title In City Crown

The Cards clinched the City title with a 15-1 league record and, alongside the Mets and Giants, will compete in the AB BA Pinto Tourney in Payson at Hillman Fields. Monday results saw a 12-2 win over the Orem Giants and a 9-0 victory against the Orem Senators, with Mets and Giants rebounding to wins Tuesday as the tourney concludes tomorrow.

It’s a Nice Day for a Miracle at the Alhambra

A new play by Janice Thorne Dixon titled It’s a Nice Day for a Miracle opens at the Alhambra Theatre on August 20 at 8:00 p.m. The production tells the Hole in the Rock expedition story and is supported by a grant from the Utah Institute of Pine Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Performances run August 20, 21, 23–28.

Kevin Gurr Returns From LDS Mission in Illinois

Kevin Gurr son of Ray Dean and Rosa Mae Gurr returns from an LDS mission in the Chicago Illinois area. A welcome home is set for August 15 at 3 p.m. in the Grove Ward. He visited his family in Illinois then traveled to Fort Bragg North Carolina to see Lt Denis Gurr and family. He plans to attend BYU this fall.

Layne Batty to Serve in Australia on LDS Mission

Elder Layne Evan Batty son of Mr and Mrs Blaine Batty has been called to the Australia Brisbane mission. A farewell in Lindon Ward Chapel will be held Sunday August 15 at 5 PM. Batty a Pleasant Grove High School graduate and four year seminary graduate.

Joel Brady to Leave for Japan Mission

Joel Brady will depart for the Japan Nagoya Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is the son of LaRoss and JoAnne Brady and is a Pleasant Grove High School graduate with honors who earned a BYU scholarship and completed his freshman year. His farewell is scheduled for Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Stake Center.

Walser Farewell in Lindon Before Mission

Elder Jon Kenneth Walser, son of Kenneth and Susie Walser, will be honored at a farewell in the Lindon Ward Chapel on Sunday at 7 p.m. before leaving for the Minnesota mission field. He enters the mission home on August 28 after graduating from Vintage High School and LDS Seminary in Napa and attending three semesters at BYU, having earned the Duty to God Award.
