Pleasant Grove Advisory Council Sets Monthly Meetings
The Pleasant Grove Community Educational Advisory Council announced meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 30 p m at Pleasant Grove Junior High School. Public attendance is invited with agenda items coordinated by Neil Flinders or Carolyn Allred. The council discussed a two pronged plan to add family skills classes and possibly parent workshops, and noted material must be previewed and instructors approved. Gayle Judd of the Utah State PTA Board reported 80 percent statewide favoring parenting classes. A report on a disruptive behavior survey will be presented later to gauge school efforts. The need for venereal disease awareness and junior high instruction was raised, with one to one counseling suggested. Mack Ostergaard was named chair of a sub committee evaluating school actions. Bert Lindstrom and John Phelan were named members at large.

The Wasatch County Fair runs August 1 through 6 in Heber City featuring parades horse races a professional rodeo and a demolition derby. 32 Teams Battle For State UBBA Championship
Thirty two teams compete for the State UBBA Little League title at the fash school complex. The Cards surged past Orem 7-2 after a late rally led by Jason Allred Clark Hill and a four inning relief from Hill. Manuel Ozanne also contributed as the Cards defeated Canyon Lands Daily 7-2. KPGR will air the championship Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Bullock Named Turn Foreman at Geneva Works
Darrell K. Bullock of Pleasant Grove has been named turn foreman of switching for the open hearth at U. S. Steel Geneva Works in the Transportation and Yards Division. The appointment was announced by division superintendent H. D. McTague. Bullock began at Geneva in 1969 as a laborer and has since served as spell foreman and locomotive crane operator. He holds a B.S. in business management from Brigham Young University.

Pleasant Grove City Council Discusses Tuesday Meeting
City officials chaired by Mayor Haynie conducted regular business with all council members present. Three Japanese exchange students were introduced as part of a long running hosting program. Engineer Lee Wimmer reported on plastic water pipe quality and recommended lines be approved by the city engineer. The council reviewed state well drilling aid and approved pipe subject to engineer oversight.

Elder Dennis Bean to Leave for Pittsburgh Mission
Elder Dennis Bean son of Ray and Verna Bean of Lindon has been called to the Pittsburgh field of labor for the Latter day Saint Church. He was honored July 31 at sacrament meeting in Lindon Third Ward, bore his testimony, and earned the Duty to God Award. A Pleasant Grove High School graduate, he earned an associate degree in accounting from Utah Trade Tech Provo. He will enter the mission home August 13 before departing. The day includes a Children’s Parade from Verl Christiansen’s on Locust Avenue to City Park with roadblocks on 400 North. 10:45 am games and events follow, including a pie eating contest and tug of war, ending around noon with lunch options.

Elder Douglas Gran. Nielsen son of Grant and Joyce Nielsen has been called to the Honolulu Hawaii Mission by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Doug and family moved from Pleasant Grove to Glendale Arizona. He will enter the mission home in Salt Lake on Aug 20 and depart for Hawaii on Aug 25 after attending Pleasant Grove and Apollo High School. He has served in church leadership roles and earned the Duty to God Award. He has worked with full time missionaries in the Phoenix area for six months.
