Trees Planted in Veterans Park Honoring Karl Banks

The Pleasant Grove Garden Club led by Mrs. LaMont Brown planted two Linden trees in Veterans Park to honor Karl Banks on Arbor Day. Mayor Jack Cook paid tribute to Banks a long time educator and World War I veteran, noting his 85 years in education and service to Pleasant Grove.

Firemen to Serve Breakfast on Saturday Morning

Firemen and Auxiliary plan a breakfast at the tenth traditional break fast on Saturday May I from 6 to 11 a.m. Proceeds fund a permanent plaque in Veterans Memorial Park honoring seven Gold Star Pleasant Grove sons and a tree planted in memory of PFC James Anderson. Officers and volunteers led by Mrs. William Robbins and others anticipate strong town support.

Hardman Sisters to Perform on TV Show Sunday

The Hardman sisters Pam Ela 9 and Annette 13, recent third-place finishers on a local talent show judged by Eugene Jelesnik, will appear on his Talent Showcase this Sunday, May 2 at 4:30 p.m. on Channel 2. Daughters of Mr and Mrs Lawrance Hardman of Pleasant Grove, they are acrobatic dancers urged to attend and support.

Pleasant Grove High School took the Division Speech Title after last Thursday's competition. David Larsen, instructor, led the team to the win, while the one act play One Day in the Life of Ivan Denesovich placed third and added points.

Lindon Council Reviews March Police and Building Plans

Lindon City Council met to review March police activity with 20 tickets issued, 11 warnings, and $285 collected. Mayor Walker discussed Utah League dues and city maps by Parley Neeley, while Councilman Jarvis pushed building permit code conformance and a new surveying instrument for city use. Street work, park traffic issues, park fountain repairs, and a special work day with baseball league participants were also noted.

Grant Approved for Pleasant Grove Water System Upgrade

Mayor Jack B. Cook announced HUD approved a 200000 grant to Pleasant Grove City for water system improvements. Bids will be requested once wage information required in the bid proposals is resolved, allowing the project to begin.

Pleasant Grove MUN Club gains recognition at Utah assembly

Pleasant Grove High School Model United Nations Club earned honors at the Utah Model United Nations Assembly at the University of Utah. Steve Allred, as Canada delegate, won outstanding delegation work on the Legal and Charter Revision Committee. Eight high schools were honored with awards. Canada sponsored a General Assembly resolution for admitting the People’s Republic of China to the UN, voting 39 to 32. Students represented Canada and Malta. Evelyn Rasmussen advised MVU.

Strawberry Queen Contest Saturday at High School

The Pleasant Grove High School auditorium hosts the annual Strawberry Days Queen Contest on Saturday May 1 at 8 pm. Contestants include Lorie Adams of Lindon and Christine Brady of Provo, both noted for academics, talents, and community involvement, with sponsors Mt Time Riders and Cadmus Club.

Bids Let for Golf Course Ground Breaking Monday

Bids have been let for construction of the Tri City Golf Course to be built near the Utah State Training School north and west of Pleasant Grove. Dewey and Peck won the contract. A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Monday April 3 at 9 a.m. at the site. The project is funded by Lehi American Fork and Pleasant Grove with federal help and aims to provide a quality course and future returns to sponsors.
