Alpine School District Board of Education announced that twelve classrooms will be added to Central School this coming summer. The expansion, described in a Thursday release, is part of a broader school DOE plan to accommodate growing enrollment.
Cactus Jim, idol of youth across the Intermountain region, will headline the Strawberry Days Rodeo to be held June 16 and 17 at the local grounds. The Red Rock Rodeo Company, owned by Parley Williard and managed by Frank Muir, will produce with Tee Morrow as announcer.
Principal Lucan Johnson announced Utah teachers are progressing on a statement of professional purposes and goals. At a Salt Lake City House of Delegates, 1200 teachers’ suggestions from 37 regional conclaves were studied and summarized. Key aims include certified teachers in every classroom, higher professional standards, broader certification, and active professional participation.

Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday in Manila ward chapel for Mrs. Ivy Freeman who died Sunday in the American Folk hospital. The service featured Bishop Harvey Smith, tributes by Alex Wadley and A P Warnick, and music by the Manilaettes directed by Gwen Adams. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove City cemetery with pallbearers and relatives in attendance. Survivors include her husband Reed Freeman a son Ray and five brothers and four sisters.
Mrs Lavina Fugal named American Mother of the Year for 1955 by American Mothers Committee Inc. She traveled from Salt Lake City to Chicago then New York for May 6 ceremonies at the Waldorf Astoria with Mrs Benny Bradley. President Melvill N Warsnick accompanied to Chicago. praise and pride expressed by Pleasant Grove Utah residents.
Last Monday a large Pleasant Grove gathering, led by three Federated clubs, celebrated Lavina Fugal as Utah Mother of the Year. Beulah Bradley and Emma Overlade welcomed guests. program included music, tributes, and a Garden Club lifetime membership for Mrs. Fugal.
Postmaster Ray Mills says Pleasant Grove Post Office will gain an enlarged facility under a renovation plan. Owner J LeRoy Thorne was low bidder to add an enclosed mail vestibule, new rear blacktop, fluorescent lighting, rubber-tire flooring in workrooms, and hot water plumbing. Construction should finish in six months. government contract runs ten years.
Six Little League teams are organized for the upcoming season in Pleasant Grove. Co chairs Glen Newman and Bill Lewis announce team names, sponsors, and ward divisions, including Manila Ward Giants and Grove Ward Yankees.
Mtr. H.W. Jacibe and her aunt Mra Int Mann of Dawid left Tieskey morning by a plane tour of Dye He- Wwalion Talamtt. On Wednesday they boarded another plane to visit Vasil relatives. After their stay the ladies plan to return by ocean transit.
A regular meeting of the Pleasant Grove City Council approved an ordinance establishing new connection fees and rates for sewer and culinary water use. The plan specifies early and late payment fees, unit by unit charges for dwellings, motels, businesses, churches, schools, and others, with quarterly billings and future annual increases through 1963.

A 1 year old girl driver avoided a fatal crash Wednesday at 8 55 p m on the Secondary Highway 611 North First East Pleasant Grove Kay Thorne and Lester Draper Grovecrest School students rode bicycles northward The Draper boy turned right off the highway and Thorne left into the sedan driven by Jolayne Buckwalter 19 American Fork Buckwalter was traveling about 20 miles an hour The car turned right wheels off pavement but struck Thorne who suffered serious cuts and bruises He was hospitalized then convalesced at home Kay is the one year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse Thorne of the city
Central School delegates joined the State PTA Convention at Utah State Agricultural College on Monday. The event featured a stimulating banquet speech by Dr. J B Nash and focused on strengthening Parent-Teacher programs with helpful ideas. Attendees from Alpine District PTA included Mrs. Austin Moyle and several others.
Viking tracksters placed in BYU meet led by Wayne Ash third in the all around. Junior high teams Pleasant Grove and surrounding schools posted several top finishes across nine events including sprints, jumps, hurdles, and relay events.
