Rodeo Queen to Be Selected May 21

The Strawberry Days Rodeo queen and two attendants will be chosen on Saturday May 21. Lloyd West as queen chairman invites candidates from all Utah County cities and towns. Judges will assess riding costume ability to ride horse and overall horsemanship with equal chance for entrants.

Dawn Adams to Solo on Intermountain Symphony May 7

Dawn Adams, a gifted violinist from Pleasant Grove now at the University of California Los Angeles, will perform Bach's Concerto No 1 as soloist with the Intermountain Symphony in Provo on May 7. The NBC national broadcast follows intermission. The program, part of NBC Orchesta of the Nation, features 19th century American composers under conductor Allen Jensen.

Anderson Named Head of County Recreation

Victor C. Anderson, chairman of Orem's recreation program, was elected chairman of the Utah County Association of recreation officials. The group, formed at educators and citizens’ urging, includes Orem Prov Pleasant Grove Lehi American Fork. It aims to protect and aid young people in health morals character and social growth through leisure.

Demonstration of Tree and Shrub Pruning in Lindon

Three Candidates Named For UEA Chief By Delegates

Utah Education Association House of Delegates at the State Capitol named three candidates for UEA presidency to be voted next October. Nominees were R Weight of Salt Lake City a music teacher at Olympus Junior High, Ray S Merrill of Pleasant Grove a principal at Pleasant Grove Central School, and Mrs. Marva Banks Lindsay of Salt Lake City a teacher at Appleton School Murray. First vice president nominee was Francis J Guerney of Ephraim Snow College. Cadmus Members Entertain for Daughters

Cadmus Club members held a daughters event at Geneva Gibson home with 38 daughters present. Geneva Gibson Daisy Nielsen and Carol Wells led activities including readings a poem and a “Toast to Daughters” followed by a “Tribute to Mothers.” Nancy Armstrong read. Ann Sumsion Jean Hillman Paulette Johnson and David Shoell performed a poem. Children danced to records. handwork displays and refreshments concluded the evening. Next meeting set for May 9 at Cumorah Tullimore home.

VEW Auxiliary Holds Meeting at City Hall

Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Battle Creek Post met at City Hall on April 27 with President Gladys Priestwich in charge. Two new members, Mrs. Amelia Burnham and Virginia Swenson, were admitted. Plans discussed included the annual Buddy poppy sale and the Strawberry Day float. Next meeting set for May 11.

Funeral Rites Pay Tribute To James C Peterson

Impressive funeral rites were held Monday at 3 pm for James C Peterson a respected Pleasant Grove citizen. Bishop Reed Walker directed the service at the Second Ward LDS chapel with relatives and friends paying tribute to Uncle Jim. Speakers praised his honesty thrift and industry while a telegram of condolences from his California grandson Glen Robertson was read. Music included O My Father and Teach Me to Pray sung by local performers. Benediction by Robert Marrott closed the service and interment was at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.

Mutual Dell Outing Dates Named

Mutual Improvement Association groups from Timpanogos Alpine and Leh stakes plan outings at Mutual Dell MIA summer camp in American Fork canyon from June 13 through August except Sundays. Alpine stake schedule lists ward dates in July and August with an institute for stake and ward workers beforehand. Charles B Walker returns as supervisor with clean up days and ground preparations by stake crews.

VFEW To Install On Wednesday

The Peasant Grove Battle Creek Post of VFW will install their officers for the next year on Wednesday May 4 in the Pleasant Grove high school auditorium. A Marine Corps Keenuting Service will precede a free movie for the public followed by the installation ceremony. The event is open to all residents and invited guests.

Calvin Mills Elected to Head Jaycees

Calvin Mills, a Pleasant Grove Senior Chamber of Commerce member, was elected president for the coming year at the annual Jaycees election held Wednesday. Keeteh was elected president and Don Stibbs as second vice president. Arnold Clawson named life year directory with Keith Saroles Wayne Holman and 6 Wadley as one year directors. Davie Green remains as director while retiring club president Bega Atwood endorses state directors. Installation planned for the first May event.

DUP Rag Drive Set For May 6 and 7

Graveside Services Held For War Victim Loren G Young

Graveside services were held Monday at 2 pm for Loren G Young who died in World War II in Germany. American Legion fire squad acted as pallbearers. Bishop Reed O Walker led the service with singing and a dedicatory prayer. Survivors include his parents Leven and Virgin Young and several siblings in Utah Idaho Washington and Oregon.
