Stake Quarterly Conference at mpanogos with Reed Smoot in attendance

The mpanogos Stake held its quarterly conference on a Saturday evening and Sunday. Apostle Reed Smoot and Andrew Jenson attended along with stake leaders and local youth in a program featuring scouting awards, musical numbers, and talks on church work and history. Smoot spoke of faith, prayer, and public outreach and noted Pleasant Grove’s pioneer heritage.

Funeral Services for Harriet Clyde Carlson

Funeral services for Harriet Clyde Carlson wife of Isaac E. Carlson were held Thursday at the Third Ward Chapel. The service included musical numbers by Bessie Young Madge Young Ruth Walker Lavona Jensen and Roy Fage with Bessie Young and Madge Young performing. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery with dedication by Clarence Hilton.

Fathers and Sons Banquet by Pleasant Grove FFA

The Pleasant Grove Future Farmers of America hold their fifth annual Fathers and Sons banquet Saturday in the High School Little Theatre at eight. About 100 fathers sons and honorary guests are expected with W W Warnick William Partington S L Swenson Mayor W A Lim and S A Kirk as honors. HH P Jones acts as toastmaster. Home Economics club plans the meal under JL A Clark and banquet committee Vernal Bird Kenneth Bullock Vern Marrett. Pres. Forrest Smith VP Kayle Linebaugh Sec Ray Downs contributed to the event.

Shady Inn Opens Under New Management

The Shady Inn will be under new management the coming season with E. R. Harritt and his son and daughter in charge. Harritt previously ran the Timp Inn at Orem for four years and worked for Provo Drug for five years and Thornton Drug for the last year. His family will run Shady Inn while he remains at Thornton Drug.

Federal Housing Act Explained At High School

Marriage of Miss Judith Sjoberg and Ralph S Rieben Jr

Miss Judith Sjoberg and Ralph S Rieben Jr of Salt Lake City wed April 20 at 8 in the home of the bride’s parents Mr and Mrs Carl Sjoberg with James H Walker officiating. The bride wore a peach gown with pink rosebuds and lilies of the valley. Bridesmaids included Miss Lillian Stobert in pale orange and matron of honor Mrs Alice Gidsworthy in yellow. Best man was James Rieben. Only immediate families attended. The couple will reside in Salt Lake City.

The marriage of Margaret Marekott and Donald Wright, both of this city, occurred at the Salt Lake Temple on April 19 and has recently been announced.

State Highway Route Discussed by Officials and Citizens

A Tuesday morning meeting with State Highway officials county commissioners and Pleasant Grove residents debated changing the highway route. Officials described several survey options including paths near Glen Matthews J A West Ott Frampton Dr Linebaugh James Adams and Isaac Hayes properties with construction planned this summer and citizens urged to voice opinions now.

Council Grants Daughters of Utah Pioneers 99 Year Lease

City council approves a 99 year ground lease in Pioneer Park for the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers log cabin. The body also budgets 75 for summer band concerts and allocates water and drainage measures, plus debt notices for delinquent irrigations and rubbish removal bids.

Four H Club Work Organized in Pleasant Grove

Mrs Myrtle Green supervised 4 H clubs in Pleasant Grove under Miss Alice Peterson. Ten clubs were organized, including cooking and sewing groups. Leaders include Mrs J A West and Miss Ethel Fillmore who led a cooking class that cooked an Easter breakfast for parents. Classes run until fall with no more than ten girls per class.
