Funeral Rites Conducted For Benj Walker

Funeral rites were held Tuesday afternoon for Benj Walker a longtime Pleasant Grove church and civic worker who died Saturday after a brief illness. The service at Pleasant Grove Second Ward LDS chapel featured Bishop Reed O. Walker leading with tributes from Merril Warnick and D. B. Thorne. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove City cemetery. Walker leaves a widow and nine children among other relatives.

Through sponsorship of the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce an 80 page directory for Pleasant Grove Lindon and Manila has been distributed this week. The effort followed street renaming to start at the Bank intersection and involved many committee members whose diligent work produced a valuable community resource.

VFW to Sponsor Marble Tournament at Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove Post of VFW plans a marble tournament on May 8 and 15 at Central School grounds. John M. Christiansen chairs the recreational committee. All boys in grades 1 through 8 are invited to participate. Medals will be awarded for first and second place. Prizes will be given for other winners.

Zone Fire Control Meetings Set for Provo on April 28

Four zone fire control meetings are scheduled for April week in Utah, announced Whitney Floyd, state coordinator for the Utah Cooperative Fire Fighters UCFT. The volunteer group includes county state and federal fire control departments. County coordinators and officials will join the UCFF team to discuss fire laws damages and prevention. Two new fire prevention films will be shown. The meetings aim to boost county wide fire prevention efforts with invitations extended to Sheriff Theron Hall assistant forest supervisor A R Taylor County Commissioner Sylvan W Clark and county attorney Arnolst Roylance. W J Cullimore Dies Thursday At London Home

William Jalliss Cullimore, born June 26, 1866, died Thursday at his London home after aging complications. A pioneer with limited schooling, he spent 1891 to 1893 on a mission in the Southern States and served in various local roles. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove First Ward Church with Bishop Alroy Gillman officiating.

Jaycees Plan Contacts for Cooperative Fire Truck

Pleasant Grove Junior Chamber of Commerce members will contact property owners in Lindon Pleasant Grove and Manila to raise 2000 for a cooperative fire truck. The plan seeks a 1600 gallon capacity unit with modern equipment to serve all three communities and allow cross city use.

Hans Neilson Dies Wednesday Of Heart Attack

Hans Neilson 63 died Wednesday of an acute heart attack. Born in Aarhus Denmark on July 13 1884 he came to the United States at age five and joined the LDS church. He married Esther Pulley in 1906. she died in 1929. He later married Lucy Eggen in 1930. Surviving are his widow six children six grandchildren and four siblings. Funeral services directed by Bishop Neill Pugal will be held Saturday at 1 pm in the Third ward LDS chapel. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Cemetery Salt Lake City. Friends may call at the Olpin Mortuary Friday evening and Saturday until time of services.

Primary students from the Timpanogos stake traveled to the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Wednesday, leaving at 780 A M. They visited church offices and the Lion House, then the Pioneer Monument and Hogle’s Garden where they enjoyed a plenic lunch and observed animals and birds. Geneva Steel to restart units with staged plan

Geneva Steel officials outlined a staged resumption beginning Monday with a second battery of coke ovens and the slab mill following soon. By week’s end a second blast furnace and more ovens will return, with May 3 set for the plate mill as open hearths rise from two to build ingot steel. In carbon county 278 workers, 72 percent of day shift, returned at Horse Canyon and 94 at Columbia. Ironton plans a gradual production buildup, but no date for supplying pik iron to Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Plant due to shortages.

Cadmus Club Program Draws Large Third Ward Crowd

The Cadmus Club held a well attended program Monday evening April 19 at the Third Ward Chapel. President Ora Thorne led the meeting with an opening prayer by Vilace Radmall and musical numbers directed by Irwin Jone. Lorena Warnick introduced speaker Mrs Ray Dillman, renowned for Western Indian civilization studies, and assisted by Mary Shavanaugh, a Sacajawea descendant. Attendees contributed food and clothing for Uinta Indians. the club thanked the Bishopric and Calvin Walker for support.

Native of Pl. Grove Dies in Salt Lake City

Arnolt Simpson, 65, longtime Pl. Grove native, died en route to Salt Lake City. Survived by his parents Henry and Charlotte, sisters Mrs Clarice and Mrs Ivete, and brothers Gilbert, Arnold, and others. Funeral plans not yet announced as the family cites local ties and memorials.
