The Pleasant Grove Strawberry Day Rodeo Association set May 27 as the date to choose a Rodeo Queen and attendants. Contestants must reside in Utah County be 16 to 19 and unmarried. Judging focuses on costume horsemanship and gear with entrants advised to contact Dewey Ad Amgon for entry.
A large crowd gathered Tuesday at the Third Ward chapel for the funeral of Rosetta M Weeks born February 20 1876 in Pleasant Grove. The service directed by Bishop Calvin Walker featured hymns and tributes from Neils Pugal Joseph Walker and Joseph Olpin with interment at Pleasant Grove City cemetery and survivors including son S Lynn Weeks and daughters Fern Radmall and Helen Weeks.
Fire crews from the local department responded to Richard Fenton’s residence at 602 B 2nd South on Wednesday at 6 15 pm after sparks from the chimney ignited the roof shingles. Estimated damage reached $1 000. It marked the fire department’s third run that month.
Mrs Emily Pedersen announces the engagement of daughter Myrie Pedersen to Elmo Roundy son of Mr and Mrs Otho Roundy of Provo. They will wed May 24 at the Salt Lake LDS temple. Myrie is a 1948 Pleasant Grove HS graduate and LDS Seminary attendee. She studied at BYU briefly and finished at LDS Business College. Elmo attends BYU and plays for the Vikings football team.
Cadmus club members vote for Strawberry Day Queen candidates at 8 pm Monday at Mrs Calvin Walkers home. Mrs Iffle Adams, Cadmus club president, says the Cadmus club selects the queen for the Second District and will decide who represents the district at the meeting.
Mrs. M Christianson Mrs. George Neilson and daughter Linda returned from Chicago after attending the funeral of Mrs. Andrew Johnson in Illinois. They drove home via Nauvoo Carthage and Independence Missouri stopping at Zions Printing in Chicago and visiting Lowell Richins Barney Hilton. Overnight they stayed with W L Christianson Williams family at Rock Springs Wyoming.
Ogden resident Elder Rulon Garfield will headline Sunday evening services in Manila ward. Garfield, a former missionary companion of Eldredge Warnick, is the featured speaker for the community gathering.
Pleasant Grove marks April 18 1950 as the first anniversary of television reception. A group gathered at 411 N Grd Hast to celebrate the first TV installed a year earlier. Attendees included the Nelson family and the Mott and Told households. FCC considers three color TV systems with black and white broadcast continuing.
Mr and Mrs Albion N Hall announce the marriage of their daughter Lynne to Mr Robert Adamson son of Mr and Mrs Dewey Adamson of this city The marriage took place on April 16th at Ely Nevada The couple will reside in Pleasant Grove The bride is senior at Pleasant Grove High School
A May 18 public meeting will elect the Pleasant Grove Queen from local girls ages 17 to 21. Six ladies clubs in London Manila and Pleasant Grove will collect applications and pick one candidate per district, forming a six girl final for the queen Miss Pleasant Grove and four attendants.
Wards in Timpanogos Stake plan mutual speech festivals across Grove Manila and First wards next week. The Grove ward Tuesday program features centennial themes, pioneer stories, Beehive Girls songs, and discussions led by senior and junior girls with scout participation. First ward hosts a Youth Is Clean themed night Wednesday and Manila ward hosts stories readings debates and dances with mutual members and scouts.
The Pleasant Grove High School speech department presents Cry Havoc a drama in three acts on Thursday April 27 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium. The play follows a dugout group of women at the edge of World War II amid danger and fear as they face a firing squad and help each other endure. Directed by Minide Bo Jacobs and Georgia Lea Bullock the cast includes Lucille Millis Joan Ardman Ant ilark Maurine Pederson Sara Gene Allred Margene Page Melha Gardiner Lon Beant Jeannine Willett Ann Nielson Helen Crenao Daene Jankins and Mary Ann Moyle with James Beimwall as stage manager.
Mr and Mrs Bar N Carlile and Mr and Mrs Maivj Carlile of Heber hosted a visit with Mr and Mrs Archie Bopatl during a one day stay.
The city began hauling garbage to Pleasant Grove’s new dump on property recently acquired, moving from the old site near Battle Creek Canyon which is closed and slated for a homesite. Instructions direct vehicles to proceed after 10 minutes to the new grounds, then follow east on First North beyond the canal and left at the signs.
Two escapees from the Utah State Penitentiary described as dangerous were recaptured near the Geneva Steel plant reservoir in Orem on Wednesday afternoon. Joseph Peterson and Dan Galloway were spotted at 115 by Officer Sterling Harding who summoned help from A Christen, Lawrence Clark, and Don Walker. Officers surrounded and captured the unarmed escapees without a struggle.
A 4-H leadership meeting is scheduled for Friday April 28 at 1 30 p m at the Second Ward LDS chapel. Mrs Jenevie Poulson Home Demonstrator will direct a session for all 4-H club leaders from Northern Utah County with representatives from the south of Provo meeting at Spanish Fork Manila. Attending will be Mrs Merrill N Warnick 4 H supervisor and club leaders Mrs Harvey Stith and Roy Bilis.

A Lee Harper, 68, died in Americas Fork hospital from injuries after a car collision west of Pleasant Grove on Tuesday afternoon. The Pleasant Grove resident was born October 17 1881 and married Lugrene Smith in 1906. He served in the LDS mission field in the Society Islands and later worked in farming, fruit growing, and as a high school custodian. Survivors include his widow two daughters two grandchildren two sisters and one brother.
Pleasant Grove Lions Club met Wednesday evening with Dean Carl J. Christensen of the University of Utah College of Mines and Mineral Industries as principal speaker on Latest Developments in Research which Might Affect This Area. Jean Pugal provided musical numbers. Nelly Fugal arranged them. David Gourley organized the program. Official nominations for 1950 51 officers will be announced May 3 and the annual election set for May 17 with Walter Mathesius of Geneva Steel Co. as guest speaker.
The Mothers Study Club met Thursday at Mrs Adams home and discussed Hugh Nibleys No Man Thats Not History. The LD8 Church response to Fern M Brodles No Man Knows My History entertained and enlightened the 18 members and one guest Mrs Christensen. A tuity luncheon followed.
Mrs. Sarah McConachie, a society candidate, won the title at the MIA dance held Friday evening. Primary candidate Janion Swenson finished second as the event drew praise for the MIA officers.
