A town cleanup campaign progresses with residents showing spring spirit. Citizens praise work by a 4 ward team and local supporters including Glaris Bros, Chas Foren Market, Dinty Shop, LeRoy Thornes. Efforts focus on sidewalks and street repairs with optimism for future improvements.
A film review discusses Coquette starring Mary Pickford at Granada Granada Salt Lake Miss Pitkford Dive. It portrays a Southern girl grappling with rage fear and love as she faces her father's shooting and eventual forgiveness.
Mrs Chips Harper Mrs Edward Nelson and Miss Leda Hansen entertained at the Nelson home Wednesday noon for the First Ward officers of the Primary Association Affor the business meeting. Light refreshments were served.
The Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce will stage a free picture show at the Alhambra Theatre next Thursday evening April 26. A report on last year's work will be read as six candidates vie for an executive committee seat. The six top vote-getters join three remaining members to form the committee. Old members are F D Atwood Clifton Clark and Lewis Olpin.
An upbeat social page reports the double marriage of Bulah Varley and Reed Gillman and Lowell Varney and Nita Banson. The ceremony took place Monday at the Salt Lake temple and a reception followed Wednesday for close relatives hosted by Mr and Mrs Varley.
Pleasant Grove Irrigation Co prepares to issue water stock certificates to signers of the Articles of Corporation. Bring old certificates to secretary Joseph Larsen in Pleasant Grove Utah to receive a certificate, joiners admitted free before June 1 1929, afterward 500 entrance fee and 2 cents per certificate. Directors L MaTwoon Albert Bezzant Joseph Larsen Niels Pugat Clifford Tomlinson.
The regular monthly Priesthood and Union meeting held Sunday April 14 at 2 o clock was well attended. President Edmund Cragan chaired. The preliminary program included vocal and violin solos by Ruby Harper and Leda Thompson, talks by Vilace Radmall Harold Bullock A J Evans and others. Coral W Atwood led the Relief Society theological lesson and Karl Banks delivered the Social Service lesson.
Naomi Nielson, three months old and daughter of Mr and Mrs Archie Nielson, died Wednesday April 17 after ten days illness with Viv pneumonia. Survived by brothers Dewayne 10 Verda 7 and Howard 2 also by parents. Funeral services held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Third Ward meeting house.
Fire crews battled a blaze Wednesday afternoon at about six. The roof of the ice house behind Thornton Drug Store burned completely before firefighters extinguished the flames. The cause remains undetermined and the loss is considerable.
The Domestic Art department under Miss Leda Thompson presented a short program and art display for mothers. Students showcased handmade lamp shades now on display in the Dixon Taylor Runsel Company window. A large turnout of mothers attended before 9 a.m. and refreshments followed.
Mr and Mrs Vern Folke and daughter Dorothy and Mrs S D Sear of Salt Lake were the guests of Mrs J H Armitstead and Mrs Hu gene Allred Sunday.
The quarterly Timpanogos Stake Conference opens Saturday April 2 with officers urged to attend and resumes Sunday April 21 at 10 am and 2 pm. Special music directed by Prof Beck includes duets by Murray Roberts and Miss Peterson Provo a ladies trio by Maurine and Helen Gamolt and Gertrude Gourley and a string trio from American Work. Pleasant Grove High School glee club performs two numbers The Barcarolle and Good Bye Sweet Day. A number of speakers will be present and attendance is encouraged.
On May 10 in Salt Lake City the State Music Contest will be held. John Halliday and Roy Page will enter as tenor and baritone, with John Haliday entering as clarinet soloist and Roland Jacobs as saxophone soloist. The piece emphasizes pride in the town and hopes for honors at home state or national levels.
Many fishermen line the banks of the Provo River for a few hours of relaxation and sport as suckers are plentiful this season. A simple setup with large hooks on strong line and a long pole can yield quick catches. One angler claimed forty fish in an hour and most participants take home a good supply.
The family expresses thanks for the many favors shown during the death and funeral of beloved mother Mrs. Hmily Hansen. They appreciate the cars speakers and musical numbers. Mr and Mrs Shelton Ellis extend thanks to friends and relatives who assisted in any way.
Mary Driggs Robison died April 11 at her Pleasant Grove home. Services at Timpanogos Stake Tabernacle featured speakers from the ward and friends, with interment in Pleasant Grove cemetery. A tribute poem honors her long life of service to family and community.
Mark Richins Sr 64 son of John and Charlotte Richins died at home Thursday after a three week illness. Heart failure listed as cause. Born July 38 1865 in Goshen Utah lived in Pleasant Grove since 1871. Survived by wife Ella Green and many children including Mark Jr Erving Oral Mrs Pearl Deveraux Mrs May Phillips Lloyd Wilvin William Burton plus 31 grandchildren and siblings. Funeral at Tabernacle Monday April 22 at 200 pm.
Miss Lenore Crookston of American Folk will give a violin class at Mrs William Green's home. She is a Brigham Young University and L D Conservatory trained student, in her third year at BYU, with prior instruction under leading violin teachers. The course follows Professor LeRoy Robertson's method. Mrs P Warnick hosted a quilting party with daughters and daughters in law invited and light refreshments served.
