Thirteen Enter Strawberry Queen Contest
Thirteen candidates entered the Strawberry Days Queen Pageant with registration closed last Saturday. Debby Taylor, a Pleasant Grove High graduate and BYU student, is among contestants. Sharleen Pitts, also a PGHS student, is another participant. The pageant set for May 1 at the PG High School auditorium will name a Queen and two attendants.

Utah County Cancer Crusade Set to Begin April 19
The Utah County Unit of the American Cancer Society launches its annual crusade April 19 aiming to educate the public and raise funds. The 1971 goal is 24000 dollars with volunteers visiting homes and businesses to collect donations and distribute educational materials.

Kay Jacobs Named to Judicial Nominating Commission
Kay Jacobs a loc banker has been named to a new Judicial Nominating Commission to select three candidates for the 4th Judicial District Judge seat created by District Judge Joseph E Nelson. The panel will name candidates for Guy Calvin L Rampton to pick a replacement. Other members include Gordon Mendenhall Heber Jack J Swenson Spanish Park Zane Alder Over and Cullen Y Christensen and Dallas H Young Jr of Provo. The Utah Supreme Court denied Judge Nelson a rehearing on the retirement act ruling making him past the retirement age, and he will step down when a replacement is named.

Edwin S. Darrell a Pleasant Grove High senior and student body president is named a Thomas J. Watson Memorial Merit Scholar by IBM among 30 National Merit four year scholars. The National Merit program reports 1 300 four year scholarships this year with IBM providing up to 160. stipends range from 100 to 1500 dollars per year.
