Pleasant Grove Civic Cooperation Campaign Gains Steam

A community effort in Pleasant Grove promotes local cooperation to boost business, employment, and city life. The drive urges residents to buy local, support public works, and back a planned park and campus while highlighting recent civic events and school awards as evidence of progress.

Salt Lake City Society Pur es Kitchen Supplies Sale

The Second Ward Relief Society held a sale at the Salt Lake City site to raise funds for kitchen utensils. Mrs Millie Poulson and Miss Vida Conway chaired the cook and purchasing committees. proceeds support the society’s luncheon and equipment for service to about 150 guests. The Windsor Ward club also began its year with a meeting at Mr Gillman’s home, led by Mrs Orill Man.

Prof Elmer E Neilson presents a free Friday recital on April 14 at 8 15 pm in the Third ward Chapel featuring advanced students Beth Anderson Lucy Wadley Hazel Phillips Elda Neves Elmer E Nelson and others with a program of polkas tunes polonaises rhapsodies and nocturnes including works by Bartlet Grainger Mac Dowell Bohm Rachmaninov Rubinstein Pessard Koehnner Schutz Liszt and Ghizt The recital is open to the public and Mr Nelson teaches in Pleasant Grove on Saturdays at the Garnett residence.

Student Body Election at Local High School

Campaigns heat up as two tickets vie for student body officers for next year. Viking nominees include Charles Harris Wanda Cullimore Beth White with Calvin Swenson as campaign manager. Blue and White team features Elmer Foutz Dorothy Williamson Madge Kirk and Frank Cooper as manager. Election set for Friday April 14 at the school.

Easter Program in Manilla Ward

An Easter program will be presented in the Manilla ward Sunday School musical reading next Sunday morning. Featured are Miriam Warnick in a musical reading, Elna Clark with a violin solo, S. L. Swenson giving an Easter talk, a group of girls singing, and an Easter story.

The quarterly conference of the Timpanogos Stake will be held Saturday evening and Sunday April 22 and 23 in the Stake Tabernacle. The program will be printed next week.

Gleaner Girls and M Men Banquet Held in Second Ward

The Gleaner girls and M Men of the Second ward held a banquet and dance in the Second ward chapel on Wednesday evening. Virgil Peterson served as toastmaster. Seventy-eight gleaners M Men and partners attended. Mrs May Grua oversaw the event with help from the youths.

Windsor Ward To Present Dance

A negro minstrel show by local talent will be presented in the Windsor ward chapel on Tuesday April 18 under the direction of the Elders Quorum. Funds go to missionary work and the program includes an orchestra funny stories jokes solos and other features. The Manilla ward hosts an Easter dance in their Amusement Hall Tuesday evening and joins Pleasant Grove clean up day with Friday April 14 set as ward cleanup day.

At a meeting of local baseball fans the following men were chosen to start the team for the coming season with Tim Richards as captain: Joseph Ash, Leland Christiansen, Verl Christiansen, Milton Kirk, Emmett Hayes, Glade Linebaugh, Jesse Walker, Harold Hardman, Guy Hillman, Russell Jacobs, Shirley Fulton, Owen Harding and others. The club aims to match any in the amateur class. Grounds will be improved and games set with top amateur teams in the state.

Lions Club Social Banquet Honors Speaker Pardoe

Lions and their ladies enjoyed a banquet and program on Thursday evening April 6 in the Lions Club rooms. Professor T Earl Pardoe spoke, with musical numbers by Mr Hansen and Mr Johnson of B Y U. The Second Ward Relief Society, led by Mrs Millie Poulson, prepared the banquet.

M I A Attendance Drive Closes in Lindon Ward

A ward contest by the Lindon ward M I A ends with the east side of the highway winning the race to draw attendees to mutual. The west side now faces a social yet to be announced. An Ogden visitor, Mrs Annie Harper Wright, stayed with relatives, and the Warnick family hosted a birthday social for their late father C P Warnick on April 5. Tests boast more bird varieties than any state with about half of US species represented in Utah.

Pleasant Grove High Wins Alpine District Track Meet Honors

Pleasant Grove high school dominated the Alpine district track meet at Lincoln last Friday. Senior Ross Brinley led with 1434 points, earning the high point medal, as Pleasant Grove scored 101.5 points to Lincoln 51.5, American Fork 43, and Lehi 20. Lehi won the posture parade, while Pleasant Grove won the junior high parade.

Cinderella in Flowerland at Windsor Ward Tonight

The operetta Cinderella in Flowerland will be staged at Windsor Ward Chapel tonight under Norma Jarman Hales with Thelma Shoell Watkins assisting. Pleasant Grove High Prom Turns Paris Night

Ruby Williams reports a junior prom at Pleasant Grove High School on April 7. Students redesigned the event after the decorator balked, transforming the gym into a Paris street scene with a Parisian tower, inns, stars, and a moonlit sky. Officers in charge were Neva Downs, Elmer Fouts, Cyril Walker, and Dan Peterson.

Ten Years Ago Now covers an Easter hike powder keg incident in which Frank Walker 16 Harold Mardman 15 Eugene Nelson 14 and Seth Phillips 14 were burned after a Dewey lime kiln find. Nelson was ejected from a sheep wagon. Also noted are a child saved from a gravel hole, a seminary building plan, a city cleanup drive, local social events, a newborn, school appointments, and student attendance at a stock show.
