Strawberry Days Queen Contest Sees Eleven Entrants in 1972

Eleven girls entered the 1972 Strawberry Days Queen pageant led by Jaycee organizers at Pleasant Grove High School auditorium on May 6. Contestants include Joyce Matthews Gaye Holman Shirlee Oscarson Susan Price Janet Woffinden Donna Bottomfield Jolynne Smith Jo Lyn Allred Carrie Adamson Marianne Rees Arronita Card. Public bathing suit feature added with individual hostesses and Miss Utah preliminary implications.

Art Exhibit Showcases Pleasant Grove Artists at Galerie

An April May show at Galerie Reception Center features William Mayfield Carol Harding and Betty Liston from Pleasant Grove. A public reception Sunday April 16 from 3 to 5 p m invites visitors to meet the artists and view the works.

Bayly Plant Raises Wages Effective May 1

Bayly Corp. manager William Garst announced an 8.54 percent wage increase for all employees, effective May 1. The Pleasant Grove plant on Center Street, which makes mens, womens, and boys apparel, will add about $108,000 to payroll. Bayly runs plants in Yakima Washington Sanger California Visalia California and Greeley Colorado alongside Pleasant Grove.

Dale L Shumway Receives Honorary Lamanite Award

Dale L. Shumway of Pleasant Grove was honored with the Honorary Lamanite Leadership Award at the Regional Lamanite Youth Conference on March 24. A Y graduate with a master’s from New Mexico Western College, he served the Southwest Indian Mission and advised Indian students at BYU, now in his sixth year with the LDS Church Indian Placement Program. He is married to Margene Petersen and they have five children.

Timp Stake Relief Society Leadership Meeting Set

The Timpanogos Stake Relief Society will hold its regular leadership meeting Thursday April 20 at 10 am in the Stake House. President Catherine Rees will conduct with the Second Ward in charge led by President Joan Beck. The program features Eternal Life and Salvation Are Priceless Gifts, a musical number by Joyce Bailey and a talk by Mildred Allen. A display of lingerie from sewing classes will be shown and instructions for the summer program given. Classwork will be held for all departments and ward officers are invited.

Lindon Lions Meet Halfway Easter Egg Hunt Held

Lindon Lions met March 29 at the club house in Lindon for a gourmet evening with guest Steve Warnick speaking on pollution and germicides. New officers were nominated and Easter baskets awarded. Easter Saturday an egg hunt sponsored by the club hid 90 dozen colored eggs for hundreds of children with numbered eggs winning prizes.

Opera Week Set for April 19 to 22 by University Guild

The University Community Opera Guild announces Opera Week from Wednesday April 19 to Saturday April 22 featuring two operas Pagliacci and Gianni Schicchi conducted by Dr Ralph Woodward. The event highlights include performances at the university venue with artistic direction by the guild.

Barbershop Style Singing Set for Provo Next Week

Parents Invited to Spring Roundup at Grovecrest

The Grovecrest School hosts a Spring Roundup for children starting school next September. Parents attend Thursday April 13 at 3 45 p m in the school library to learn about kindergarten, health forms, and registration. Birth certificates are required and may be presented if available.

The Valley View Elementary School PTA asks for used books suitable for ages five to twelve to stock the school library. Hardcover preferred but paperbacks accepted, with drop-off or pickup arranged by calling Mrs. Floyd Davis, Mrs. Don Voorhees, or Mrs. John Bylund.

Gun Safety Class Set for April 20

A gun safety class for youths 11 and older starts Thursday April 20 at 6 p m at the Sportsmen Lions Center located at 6th East and Center. Registration before class begins at the clubhouse Saturday April 15 from 4 to 6 p m and Thursday April 20 from 5 to 6 p m. The registration fee is two dollars.

Pony League Final Registration Date Set

Final registration for Pony League will be held from 5 to 8 p.m next Tuesday April 18 at Gene Carter's home 323 East 200 North. If you cannot attend you may register by calling 785 3996.

Central School PTA Elects New Officers for Coming School Year

The Central School PTA elected officers for the next year during a Spring Sing event on April 5. Cora Waldrop will serve as president with Carol Crawley as vice president and Fern Anderson as secretary, as Margaret Kelley steps down. Principal Calvin Walker delivered closing remarks and Thomas Larsen was announced as the new principal beginning next fall.
