Citizens of Pleasant Grove prepare for an annual cleanup campaign from April 11 to 18. Housewives begin with home chores then assist in yards and sidewalks while men prune trees and burn debris. Ashes are to be hauled away by residents and dumped only in containers for trucks. City offices invite public buildings to participate.
At the Saturday session Councilman Adam Mi led the decision that the waterworks committee will set operation standards for culinary meters serving two families in one dwelling and connected phone service. The waterworks committee may purchase ten meters and the recorder will pay the $10 annual Utah Municipal Academy membership fee. Regular monthly bills were examined and transfers of water certificates were approved.
KNILA WARD and the M Men along with Vanguards and the chite ward back a project to complete a standard size tennis court. The old eastern facility near the ward hall has been demolished to make way for the new court.
L Warnick, secretary of the Pleasant Grove national farm loan association, reports from the Farm Credit Administration that creditors are welcoming Federal Farm Mortgage Corporation bonds now offered by the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley. Bonds yield 3 percent and have traded near or above par, with early New York sales at par or above.
Under N H Melson supervision workers begin removing a one inch pipe from the city cemetery to Arrowhead Service Station. It will be replaced by four inch pipe and the old line used to pipe water to the ball park. Fifteen men start work the first day with more to follow. Taxpayers are financing and staffing the project, with locals invited to work to earn money for summer crops.
Pleasant Grove residents visit Salt Lake City and Provo relatives as births, hospital recoveries, and mission returns are announced. Several weddings, farewells, and Relief Society events highlight a week of community news across the ward.
Every ward in the Timpanogos stake will hold Honor Night on Tuesday April 1. Ward plays retold stories public speaking contests and a dance contest will be featured. All are invited to attend.
The primaries of the Timpanogos stake present a musical playlet in the high school auditorium on Saturday April 14 at 8 pm. Rosalyn narrates in grandmother's garden as various ward groups and international dancers perform songs and dances sharing a world family tree.
A high school tennis event finished last Friday with players Dan Peterson Alfred Dexter Ernest Graa Wall ace Sogle Rex Gourley Farrel West Glade Linebavieh and Wayne John son. Final match results show Gil Linebaugh defeating Wayne Johnson with scores 46 57 63.
A Sunday fire destroyed the home of Mrs. Edah Allred in Pleasant Grove due to sparks from a dry shingle roof. Neighbors salvaged items from upstairs while Lamar Allred and family rooms suffered heavy losses. insurance partially covered the blaze. Firefighters arrived late as business and telephones were closed for a convention.
The Second Ward Primary Association will present a Sunday evening program during the regular sacram ent meeting. The program includes a Primary children song, a piano solo by Carol Clark, a reading by Zelda Freeman, and a talk on The Children's Hospital by Helen Partington, closing with a song by ward association officers and teachers.
Manila ward will serve about 200 plates at a banquet this Friday in the ward recreational hall. The committee reports everything is in readiness for the event.
A class athletic meet led by Elroy West and Coach Harry Richards lists top placings on April 5 6. Athletes like Arliss Steiner Rex Gourley Alva Jensen and LaVar Huntsman headline events including sprints jumps throws and pole vault. Winners move toward the Alpine district meet at American Fork on April 20.
The high school held its annual Boys Day with a committee including Alva Jensen Kate Linebaugh Orval Wadley Ray Mills and Harvey Cobbley. Students performed class style stunts and program numbers on a central platform followed by a noon cafeteria luncheon supervised by Miss Emily Wright. The day concluded with an evening matinee dance after the chapel program.
A Utah Recovery Administration letter approves a 63 hour per week uniform schedule for Pleasant Grove food and grocery stores. Stores open 8 AM and close 6 15 PM on weekdays and 7 PM on Saturdays, with 87 percent support from area retailers.
Daughters of Pioneers met at Eva Fage home March 28 with Lucile Walker in charge. Officers elected: Lucile Walker captain Annie Holman first assistant Pearl West second assistant June Smith assistant parliamentarian. Lunch dispensed. Next meeting to clean cabins on the second Wednesday in May.
Edward G Shoell 62 of London was struck by a northbound car driven by Keith Severn 24 of Salt Lake City after stepping from a car Sunday evening on a state highway. He suffered head cuts a bruised hip and knee and other injuries. He was taken to Dr G S Richards office in American Fork and then to his son Leonard G Shoell's home where he is recovering.
A southbound Orem passenger car caught fire near Manila crossing last Friday at 6 35 am due to a blown fuse. About a dozen passengers exited as flames began atop the car. Pleasant Grove firemen were alerted but arrived after the blaze was out. The trolley was moved to the end of the car and continued to Payson terminal after a final inspection.
A rock shattered the north window of Christensen's store at about 8 50 p m on Monday. It is the third window damage since the building was leased by Christensen Co and county officers are pursuing possible clues to identify the guilty party.
The Frake family takes the state fair by storm. Abel wins Blue Boy and Melissa earns blue ribbons for pickles and mince meat while Marcy and Wayne face youthful plans. Margy finds love with Pat as the storekeeper contemplates his wager. The happiest life moment arrives at the fair.
Pleasant Grove High School under Charles Harris student body president RH Beck musical director and Miss Arvilla Clark dramatic art teacher presented the program at American Fork High School Thursday.
